I just pulled the 264 and Dynaflow out of my 54'. The PROBLEM is that I cannot get the tranny off the back of the motor. All the bolts are out, the 3x3 cover, and flexplate cover are all off and I still cant find out what is holding it to the block.

Are there any books that would give good visual representation of these parts so I can dissasemble?

I need to seperate so I can rebuild the engine for resto!

Please Help!

I will see what I can find in my book, mine is a 364 but should not be too different!

Did you take all the bolts out of the flywheel and torque convertor? I think there are several that will keep it together.

I can't get to any bolts that would be on the flywheel because the motor is frozen. The crank wont turn so I can get to them. Will I have to take the engine apart BEFORE i can get the tranny off? On the th400 and 455 I have the torque converter slides onto the splines of the tranny. Is the Dynaflow different?

I am sorry, I have not been able to get to my shop manual, and it has been too long since I took the last one out to remember. I do think you will need to get to all the bolts by turning the motor over. I don't think you can just slide the convertor out like a later th350-th400.
It may be very difficult to remove the trans if the engine is stuck. I know early Oldsmobiles, Caddies, and Pontiacs were that way. you had to be able to spin the motor over or you had to break the bellhousing off to get to the bolts.
I will try to check this weekend for you.

the converter is bolted to the tranny with a bolt through center of the converter. youwill have to tear the engine dow or free it somehow
