So, the other day I lightly masking taped my NOS '64 dog dish hubcaps on the '55 and I have to tell you - I love the look. Body colored (red) stamp steelies with a nice stainless trim ring and the dog dishes...... It would complete the whole poverty image of the Special sedan.

But here's the dilemma... I know the car is a 5 on 5 inch bolt pattern, but the stock steel wheels will not accomodate a 10 1/8 inch back inner diameter hubcap - not to mention the fact that the stock rims are narrow. I've been told that the 60's big Buicks are 5 on 5 also, but no one seems to know for sure. Someone else suggested an 80's Chevy/GM pickup or van. Does anyone know or has anyone ever done a steel wheel swap on the '55?

Thanks,
Matt

I've got 7" wide 5 on 5 steel wheels with a 4" backspace running bias ply's. I also love the look, but the 4" backspace doesn't clear the tie rod end on the front. It really needs about a 3" backspace on front. The 4" backspace fits fine on the rear, but I have to run a 1" adapter on front, which I hate and is not safe for any kind of distance or speed. You might check Stockton Wheel. If you find an interchange fit, please post it!

Yes, the bug body Buicks, Olds, Chevies all have 5 x 5 as well as most full size trucks, and some smaller s-10 trucks. However, the center hole for the hub flange on the 55 is much bigger in diameter than the other wheels openings. I had a pair opened up to fit the front of my 55. I am not sure if anyone makes wheels for that style hub.

Not sure if this will help, but I do know the centering hole on the 63,64 Riviera is larger than other GM's and they are 5 on 5 lug pattern. Not sure about the backspacing, but I could find out as I have a couple laying around
