Thanks all, for the well-wishes. The elbow replacement was the least of my troubles. Apparently, I need to add "versad" (sp?) to the list of things to NOT give me. They gave it to me during surgery and I stopped breathing. Then, the surgeon had to do extra work on my arm, as the bones grew together and while separating them, one cracked. :Dou: Add another plate & screws to my bill. I was under for at least 4 hours.

Tuesday I got a killer migraine headache and was nauseous. That lasted until Weds afternoon. They pumped me with migraine meds and nausea stuff, changed my painkillers. Finally doing well enough today that he removed the splint and I can bend the elbow a bit. No PT for awhile, surgeon doesn't want them wrenching on it - I get to do it on my own.

I'm home and feel well as long as I take the (very) occasional narcotic.

And yes, I've got a bionic arm to match my bionic, computer controlled leg! Next, I'm sending my dog in (the Bionic woman had that bionic german shephard, can I get a Bionic dalmatian?)

Thanks again for all the thoughts, it does make a difference!!

Back in the saddle in no time!

DonHey Don, thanks for the well-wishes. See what you miss when you're a world traveller?

This is not my first experience with the staples, mine have just come along in batches. Glad they saved your leg, regardless of the number of stitches. They didn't even attempt to save mine, it was too mangled. That was in 2003 (motorcycle accident as well) and I've been in/out of surgery since for both arms and some on my leg.

PT? They were going to add me to their payroll!! I've been in it nearly continuously since. I'll be back soon for this arm. They'll be glad to see me back (again) - they like the stories about my adventures!

Heel fast Annie!!! Use that elbow as soon as you can. I gets better faster if you think positive.

I had both hips replaced (1 year apart) but only got 42 staples in each leg. I kept the remover for the first one and took out the staples myself the second time. It didnt hurt but I could remove them with out any problem. I walked out of his office 5 weeks after the second replacement without cruches and put 160 miles on my snowmobile the next day. I sure enjoyed the next seven weeks off from work to recover. :bglasses:

They pulled the staples Thursday morning, everything seemed ok. Dr. starts in on me (again) about stretching, twisting, do this, do that, keep it moving (which I had been doing anyway, he's just reminding me). So, I tried the stuff out right there, he's satisfied. They all disappear into the back to finish my paperwork. I look down, there's blood on my pants where my arm was laying. By the time I got to the back office, it was really bad. Apparently, a part of the incision wasn't fully healed and twisting it around opened it a bit. They wrap it all up. Tell me it should stop in a bit. Asks me if I'll be around over the weekend.

Nope, I'm leaving for Indy as soon as you let me go. He says to call him if it doesn't stop bleeding. It does, mostly. Another problem crept up on Friday, I am in serious pain and it is moving in directions that aren't quite right. BUT, I'm in Indy being chaffeured around in a hairdryer, er.... :Dou: oops....turbo car having a blast and thinking this could be my last "hurrah". Besides, my surgeon can't do anything for me in Indy, and no one else will either.

Suffered through, got home today - called my Dr's office. Answering machine says they're off until Weds the 5th and any emergencies go to the emergency room. :Do No: So, I'm on my own until Weds - as there is no sense in sitting in emergency for half a day for the on-call ortho surgeon to say "I've never seen anything like it, wait for your guy to get back - here's some narcotics, stop moving around." I have a feeling Karma is kicking my a$$ again and I may end up back in the hospital.

Keep going with the good thoughts - they are much appreciated and certainly needed. And, oh yeah - try and keep me away from the G-body turbo cars....they sure are fun! :Dou:

Glad your on the mend gal. I remember your kind wishes and some background info on my impending knee replacement, WHICH WAS CANCELLED 'CAUSE THE DOCTOR GOT SICK. Given that, I know have a new surgery date of July 18, so an additional month wait, two pints of my own blood wasted and we're on again. Anyhow, Annie, glad it's all conming together....so to speak.

Annie Oakley
07-21-2006, 07:39 PM
Well, I did get good news on July 5. Seems that I have a 'loose elbow'. (yeah, of all the things on your body to be considered loose! ) The Dr basically said that I had extra movement in the joint/ligaments/tendons - so that side-to-side motion was to be expected until everything tightened up.

Was doing good until Tuesday this week, getting a lot of movement back, even typed a bit at work Mon & Tues. Tuesday night I got really sick feeling and my arm started hurting. Stayed home on Weds. Arm hurting worse and worse, then it was weeping at the incision line a bit. I noticed lots of heat and a littlw swelling. Called the Dr. on Thursday morning - go get xrays and come to the office.

(A little background - about 6 months after my accident, they discovered a nasty staph infection in my arm. One of the strains that does not respond to nearly any antibiotic on Earth. I spent a few months on home iv's, 11 days in the hospital, about a year on some really weird, expensive antibiotics, etc. That's why it took 3 years to get my elbow replaced. Before the replacement, he was somewhat worried about the infection flaring up - it never goes away, it is just 'under control'. Told me that there was a 50/50 chance of it flaring up after surgery and about that again of being able to get it under control. If they couldn't control it, the only other choice will be to amputate my arm. So, we get a little frantic about problems!)

I was in so much pain that I was nauseous and didn't eat. Nearly passed out during xrays. Got to the office and he sticks an 18 gauge needle and a 4" long spinal needle into my elbow to get samples to culture. Grossed out yet? He is very convinced that it is due to overuse and a bit of cellulitis. Tells me to take it easy, but we'll put you on the super-antibiotics 'just in case'. Gives me 3 scripts, an excuse from work. They made me drink lemonade and eat a breakfast bar before driving home. Almost killed me. I drive the 45+ minutes home and am completely unable to go to the pharmacy. The neighbor lady that helps me is on vacation.

Stayed home today, but did get out to the pharmacy. BUT, they don't have my antibiotics available - NOT UNTIL MONDAY. :Dou: Crap. Damn near died again in the checkout lane. Finally got home, sat down and looked at my arm. It is swollen and red and hot moving up my bicep now. Great! Put some ice on it, but it's not good. Will call the Dr tomorrow if not better.

So, still in need of good thoughts before they decide to lop off my d@mn arm too.

Thanks!

yeah, over-prescription of antibiotics (antibacterials) and the concentration of the sick and weak in hospitals makes them a breeding ground for all kinds of drug resistant diseases.

that's were virtually everyone who catches those kinds of things gets them, at the hospital. it's a good a idea to get home as fast as possible, not just because the hospital is raping you on the daily room rate.

you don't think that mega-dosing of AIDS patients is having any effect on the development of super diseases, do yah? :Dou:

It is swollen and red and hot moving up my bicep now

well **** Annie ... that's damn near textbook infection propagation. they don't have any of that crap at the hospital or the Dr's office?

Annie,

Find a local health food store and try some Oil of Oregano and some Colloidal Silver. Both are natural and work like an 'antibiotic'. Being that they are natural, you won't build up an immunity to anything - like can happen with regular antibiotics/antiseptics.

That's what I would do anyways. They can both be taken internally and/or externally.

You should also find something to help build back up your body's immunity, such as Blue-Green Algea. There are others, just ask when you're there.

I'm not dead set against doctors, but I don't believe drugs and surgery are cure-alls for anything. When we have problems with our bodies, it's trying to tell us something.

My sister is a certified Nutritionist. I'd be happy to give you her number, or vice-versa. She always helps as much as possible.

umm, Annie?

you did remember to send in your stunt double for the staph infection thing, right? :o

hope everythings going, errr, ok?Well, it's getting, errr, better? I guess I'm feeling 'better', except for the tiredness, the side effects from the super antibiotics, and now - the boredom. Dr made me stay home from work again this week. My arm's back to it's 'normal' size and most of the pain is gone.

So, I'm 'better', but everything else has gone to heck in a handbasket in the meantime. Apparently, I am finally fulfilling my destiny as trailer park white trash, as the country estate is quickly going to shambles. Hasn't been mowed in so long that I cannot locate the dually :Do No: ; a mini-tornado went through last week and destroyed a bunch of trees, which conveniently fell on the fence and it also shredded my screened-in gazebo. I've just decided to start leaving things where they die and give up on the maintenance of it all. If I start collecting cats, I can be "that crazy old lady that lives on the corner" soon!

Dropped my laptop on the floor (again) and had to warm up the credit card and order a new one :Comp: . That shiny red car still has polish left on it from 3 weeks ago, needs 300 miles put on it and an oil change before leaving for Salem next Thursday, and knowing my luck with her, will probably self destruct before getting out of the driveway. :Dou:

Still kickin', but resenting conciousness more and more.

BTW - Kosmic Justice does not allow stunt doubles in the repayment of bad deeds to the kosmos. Gotta do all the work myself!

don't want to be a wet blanket ... but perhaps you should consider skipping Salem. your arm may be back to 'normal' size but it certainly doesn't sound like you're really functional with it yet.

My right arm has been nearly unfunctional (ie: flopping around held on only by ligaments) since July 1, 2003. Functioning without a right arm is second-hand nature now (pun intended). It's still better than it's been, at least I don't have to pick it up with my left hand anymore!

so, is wut yer sayin is, you were the source of the shenanigans you were smelling? :puzzled:
