Fan Shroud?

Guys,

My '61 Lesabre has some heating issues. The car is completely unrestored, right down to its original '61 date-coded plug wires. I just turned 47,000 miles. The car still has its original Harrison radiator, and no shroud. I have to believe, due to the unmolested state of the car that it was never there to start. Every picture I have seen of 1961 Buick engines, there are no factory shrouds, is this actually the case? Since the car is pretty low mileage, it obviously sat for years and years and I am pretty confident there is probably pretty bad crud build-up preventing adequate waterflow which I will be addressing shortly (recore using original tanks,it heats up at speed, and after awhile in traffic) but back to my main question...Did Buick put fan shrouds on full-sizes in '61?

The only thing I have seen on 61s (including mine) is a small cover above the fan. So far I have never seen one with a fan shroud.

Thanks for the reply, my car also has the finger protector shield/upper mount. I just find it really interesting that the '61 Chevrolets have a shroud, and the Buicks do not. Were the cooling systems that heavy duty where they didn't need one? I have always thought a fan shroud is the first lesson in Cooling 101..... :Do No:

That is kind of interesting, the Chevs do and the Buicks don´t have shrouds. I´ve had two ´61 Buicks and none of them have had any cooling problems. Are the fans closer to the radiator on Buicks? :Do No:
Good looking bubbletop you have. :TU: Have you posted any pics of it? Always wanted to have one but the convertible had to come first. But maybe someday I will buy me a bubbletop.

The 401 in my rivi was overheating in stop and go traffic. I put some of the water wetter in it and it is staying cooler now, but I'm still putting in a fan shroud it should be here tomorrow. From what I hear its a comon problem with the nailhead. As far as if the 61 had you got me on that one. If you want some measurements of the one for my rivi I ordered to see if it would work in your car let me know.
