Got a call last night, 2 People I know doing a deal on a car, that will cross State Lines.
VIN is 1 digit OFF on Title.
Seller has had car for number of years, and never noticed problem, and Buyer is flying in to drive car 1000 Miles home. (IF Possible)
Hopefully, things can get cleared, BUT this is something I doubt really crosses our mind.
It took me 3 months to get an Ohio Title Corrected on a Vette I had, where someone put a 5 in the VIN inplace of an "S".
Out of State Transfers could be Worse, especially with long distances, and required Inspections. (Vette changed hands 3 times in 8 years Locally, so that wasn't that difficult, to chase)
Interstate, is another thing.
Lets say 4G37H2Kxxxxxx was the car You Bought, and everything was GOOD, but the Title read 4G37K2Kxxxxxx, and that car was stolen out of Florida 10 Years ago and is still on the Missing list.
You Bought the car from PA. and are taking it to TX, and the Inspector catches the Mistake. Both Parties, are Standup, BUT You NOW have 2 States AND the FBI looking at BOTH Parties because car has Crossed state lines and is on a HOT SHEET, due to 1 Clerical error.
Heaven Help you IF there was an Engine or Trans change YEARS ago, and neither party has receipts, because it was done prior to Seller buying the car from an Estate!!!!
PLEASE take a few Minutes, and Check Your VIN against Your Title. It could save You A LOT of Problems.

Yes JR that is a GOOD point---one digit/letter could ruin your whole day. :af: When
I got mine the seller had told prospective buyers the 72 had an "O" instead
of a "U" or "V". :Do No: He was looking quickly thru the windshield at the dash numbers
and was not looking at the registration and/or title. :spank: Only after seeing the
car for myself and the paperwork I knew it was a "U"---standard 455.After I
bought the car and got to this board I found the identical numbers on the
tranny and timing chain cover. :bglasses: Pete/ California

I am purchasing a buick in the USA and bringing it into Canada, is there a reputable service offered in the usa to check and see if the title is clear with no leins etc, before i hit the border with the car. As per US customs request I did send a copy of the title to the US customs so they can do the initial check but they won't tell me if the title is clear untill i actually get to the border with the car after I've paid for the car. It'll be a b*tch if I get to the border and they tell me i can't clear customs with it. Thanks for any help,

Crazy how things like this happen. Just a clerical error----seller nightmare.
