At some point the trunk letters that spell "W I L D C A T" on the back of my Buick will have to come out for paint. I have read these were just pushed in. Is there any magic to removing them other than a screwdriver and even pressure? Will they be reusable once I pull them out or do they become stripped?

Any help is appreciated.

Can you see the back of them? Some letters had a nut and a pin. Also, a body manual has a chart that tells you most of the trim fasteners, too.

You can't get to the back of the fastener from inside the trunk. Attached is a picture of inside and out.

Usually if you can't get to the back side to remove a speed nut they probably are the
push in type. But there usually is a little sleeve thingy that fits in the body hole.
It's put in first and then the letter is pushed in. You can get new sleeves if they are the round type I know because I just bought some today at a Savage Auto store or
auto paint stores usually carry them also along with various molding clips.
Might want to squirt a little rust removing oil around the letter first to help the removal
process if they are a little sticky. Don't want to break them cuz they are hard to find
sometimes.

Roger has steered you straight. A little WD40 won't hurt, then use a thin molding clip tool [ flat blade screwdriver is ok ] to gently pry under and near the center - as opposed to the edge. You will find that that each letter has 2 0r 3 pegs which are held in place by clips called barrel clips. The letters will be fine - the clips, although still usable, should be replaced as they like to rust.
