Look under the dash at the brake pedal and you should see a switch on a bracket that touches against the pedal arm. Adjust in/out to open/close brake light contacts.

Not on a 55...
55 Buicks have a pressure switch mounted on the master cylinder. Replace that.

I replaced my power brake booster because of a bad diaphram. It wouldn't let the brake pedal come all the way back up. I'm not sure if this applies to the 55's but I thought I would throw it out there.

Is there any way I can fix it in the short term....might it only need adjusted?
I have my MOT this week and won't have time to send for another one at the moment.

I humbly bow to superior knowledge, I let my 55-57 Chevy history get in the way of helping a fellow Buick nut. :Dou:

They sell them at all the big parts stores. Just unplug & unscrew....screw the new one in, and reattach the wires. It's easy...but kindof a pain to get to...

I have kinda the opposite problem. My 1950 Roadmaster's brake lights only come on when I put a lot of pressure on the brake pedal. I mean I have to almost stand on the pedal for the lights to come on. Anyone know if there is an adjustment I can make to rectify this problem? All suggestions appreciated. Maybe I should start a new thread, but I was hoping someone may have some helpful info on this one.

Same story - the easiest and cheapest way to fix brake light problems on the early Buicks is to replace the switch. 90% of the time, that is the issue.
