Low Beams Blowing Fuses in 2006 Chevy 2500HD

When I try to turn on my headlights, the 2 fuses instantly blow. I have hi beams, driving lights, and daytime running lights. The relay is good. I have done a visual check on the wiring, and everything looks good.

I do need to mention that it was just repaired due to a minor fender bender that cost my insurance company $8500 to fix this beast. I had it back at the body shop today for a quick look, but they can't get to in until late next week...so I am trying to get this solved myself before then.

Is there some inherent problem with these trucks that I am missing? I thought for sure that they crimped a wire into a bumper bracket or someting, but it all looks ok to us. We had the grille and headlights all out this afternoon trying to figure it out. I'm tired of buying 10 packs of 10amp fuses.

Does the circuit call for a 10 amp or a 15 amp fuse.

We have a couple of GMs, not 2500s, and I just checked to make sure about my memory. They are 15 amps each. Just a thought. Perhaps a redesign for your model?

Might it be in the column?was the air bag blown.
aslo I had a venture van in here one day that kept blowing fuses
found the harness was under the battery shorting out on the tray.

That's what the specs are. Each side has its own fuse.

The fuses aren't even holding together to flick the lights on. Just POW gone.

No air bag blown. The only parts actually unbolted from the truck were the front bumper and left fender. Everything else is held on by clips:rolleyes:

Sounds like there is a short in the harness. Check area were front end was hit.

If it is doing it that fast then either they either pinched hot side wire to ground or if they unplugged the harness they plugged a hot side connector into a grounded connector.

not really sure I found the real problem, but I disconnected the sections one at a time and finally isolated one section that would blow the fuses. I followed it around and never really found any breaks or areas where it was grounding. But I tried one more time and both headlights came on. I plugged the bad section back in and it did not pop any fuses this time. When I did plug it back in, it actually made the headlights a little brighter. I am guessing this is the feed for one of the sides from the fuse box.


Oh well - fixed. But it appears my DRL's are gone now. I'll look at that later. I can drive at night with this now.
