Gas Tank for 71 skylark, or fuel cell?

Hey guys, i have a couple of questions for ya.

First of all the skylark i bought has no gas tank in it and i need to find one. Should i just go searching the junk yards or buy one somewhere else? Or should i just buy a fuel cell to put in the car? I'm not sure how hard it will be to find a tank for it in the junk yards or how much one will cost. Any ideas? Also will a tank out of another GM car of the same year work, like a chevelle?

And my last question is about what I believe the mechanic called "engine stands" I'm not sure what they are but he said he is looking for some in the junk yards because new they cost about $120. He said its not the mount but something to do with the mount. I'm really not sure what he is talking about so i'm not sure what to look for but i figured here would be the place to start. What he needs it for is the 455 he is putting in my Skylark, its out of a 70 electra but he said he couldn't use the ones in the electra and have the block sit right.

Anyway if you can help me out in any way please let me know.

The Chevelle bumper is probably different, I'd steer clear.

If you buy a new tank, you will still need a filler neck. get an old tank, and take the old tank and the new, neck-less tank to a welder who knows his stuff about gas tanks. Luckily I have a local guy who's great, and two doors down from him is a guy who is so good at delicate welding he can weld pot metal trim:puzzled: I just will never be that good at welding, the guy's an artist. Anyhoo, the filler neck should come right out of the old tank for the guy, and he'll do whatever he does (didn't think to ask, but I bet it's more of a soldering process than it is a welding one). In any case, if he can't do it, he'll know someone who will. Check your local yellowpages and ask some welders. Most of the ones I know are into old cars in the first place.

Sounds like your mechanic is talking about the pads that bolt onto the frame crossmember to me- they are things that bolt up to the engine mounts. They are sorta like a wedge laying on their sides, about 4" by 3"and 2" high or thereabouts, haven't really looked at mine that closely in years. They have three holes each in the vertical plane, used to bolt to the frame, and one hole each in the horizontal plane- that's the part that the motor mount bolt goes through, and holds the mount to the pad. You can get them from TA performance, if that's what he needs. I had the same problem with my engine, it was out of a Riviera. I had to find originals, but reproductions are availavbe now, in iron or aluminum, I beleive.

If your car is a "71", I beleive that you can use the gas tank from a 71 or 72 skylark.

The "70" Skylark neck will be different due to the placement of the license plate location on the bumper.

Just keep this in mind.

Hey thanks for the replies guys. So are these mounting pads about $120 cuz thats what the man said they were new, i just had no idea what he was talkin about.

Also thanks for the offer Jerry, I tell you what the next time i'm out in washington i'll swing by to pick up that tank, or you could just save me some time and send it with the ups man. :laugh:
