I was on buicks.net and it seems the number we have and the number on there don't jive.. Anyone with a casting number on there car? #1381624 is what is on the block..It has the 400 cast into the block and the letter code seems to be Either ND or NR.. It does have 430 big port heads on it... Could this be a 67 430? Please help.. Thankyou

sorry, my ref book doesn't list any block casting numbers for the 400/430 engines.

anyways, the Buicks.net list is NOT comprehensive. there are many casting #'s not included on there. fer instance, take a look for 350 numbers ... there's a LOT of years that don't have anything listed for the 350.

as far as i'm aware, there is no comprehensive list of Buick casting numbers anywhere. kind of like a lot of the production info, for whatever reason the paperwork has gone missing.

the letter code seems to be Either ND or NR.

heh, well, it's definitely a 67. NR is the 67 400, ND is the 67 430. i would think it very odd for the block to be stamped the wrong displacement.

It does have 430 big port heads on it.

many of the 67-69 head castings were used on both displacement engines.

My #s matching GS400 has block casting #1381624.
Also NR is stamped on the block deck between the 2&4 sparkplug.
There is also a 3 digit # there that matches the 3 digit engine # on my POP.

ALright!! Thats what I wanted to here!! This engine did come out of a 67 400 GS a number of years ago.. I Just wanted to confirme the casting number.. It does have the original Switch pitch BA stamped TH400 tranny on it also.. I did confirm last night that it was stamped NR Not ND.. Has quite a bit of rust over it but I did get some of the VIN also 18344.. (I THink).. THankyou for your help.. It also has the ditributor number 1111260 and I can't find a listing for that either.. The Manifold Numbers on the top are all but gone looks like ***062**2 Or something like that..

Did the 430 big port heads come on teh GS model?? That would be nice to know also.. Thankyou I feel alot better.. Randy

I know my 67 GS400 heads are the 983 big port. I also have a set of 983's that came off a 68 430 out of a Riv..
My intake# is 1874062.
I never looked for the dist.#. I can look but I don't know if 4 spd cars had a different dist.# than auto's. I have a 4 spd.
