Hey guys, I'm Melissa! I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. First off, I'm a big-time car girl. I really dig cars of all types, and especially drag racing.

I've worked for the NMRA & NMCA the past few years, and now I'm helping start a new video company called powerTV which broadcasts motorsport TV and video over the internet.

I was wondering if anyone could put me in touch with the owner (or one of the owners) of the site. We are interested in working with the site on some really cool free video technology we're developing. I can be reached at mlawrence@gopowertv.com. Thanks!

This is terrible news. I thought Melissa sounded nice and I was hoping to meet her someday :ball: My life is ruined now. Not only that but now I won't know where to buy car stuff without her help. Every weekend, I watch the "PowerblockTV" four hour infomercial on TV but somehow I miss the names, websites and phone numbers of the vendors. I sit there with my credit card and phone in hand and they repeat the numbers over and over and over but I just can't remember. Now, without Melissa right here on V8Buick to help me spend my money I'm screwed. I don't know what to do, where to turn. I quit. It's over. I'm out. I'm done.

The post was so contrived that it is obvious.
I was going to say something when this was first posted, but everyone seemed so enamored that I decided not to.

Hey Guys..

My name is James, I've been registered on here for a while. I'm the founder of powerTV

We have never posted on V8 Buick except to talk to the administrator about our video hosting service we provide to forums (let's them have their own youtube). We do this for a lot of forums at no cost.

I just wanted to respond just to provide both sides of this story, and below is a note I originally started on Corvette forum.

While I agree with all efforts to reduce SPAM and corporate bullying and marketing tactics - the presentation of the facts and Jonathan Rubenstein's motives are not what they appear to be.

Jonathan is leading a personal witch hunt and has a history of attacking SEMA and other companies. This entire issue started when he sent out an Anti-SEMA e-mail and I defended SEMA. Apparently he is obsessed with this type of thing and ever since then, he has dedicated thousands of hours to trying to destroy our company.

He claims we are stealth guerilla marketing company, not an online TV show/automotive TV network. Of course, if you read through all of his threads, he also hates PriMedia, SEMA, HorsepowerTV, Discovery Channel, Comp Cams, Holley, and just about every other media company, TV show, or business in the industry..

I would post a link to a more detailed response, but I can't post any links. If someone cares, I can PM the link and they can post it.

I can. As far as I know, the purpose of this site is for Buick enthusiasts to share information about Buicks. She came on here with the sole purpose of promoting PowerTV. Most likely she was following orders. She copied the same schpeal onto many automotive forums. This is known as SPAM. If she actually wanted to find out who was the owner of the site it wouldn't have taken very much work and would not require this useless (to us) thread.

This is the main reason I'm here way more than I watch TV. Here I can read and learn about Buicks and try to help people that are interested in Buicks. I don't have to sit through the commercials, idiotic scripted drama or blatant product promotions within the show just to see 3 minutes of interesting car material. Here it's just about all Buick all the time. If SPAM was allowed here, it wouldn be long before V8Buick would be even worse than automotive TV!

Bottom line....
Buick and Olds guys always root for the underdog. Because we are underdogs ourselves.
Sometimes I b1tch that parts are so hard to find, but then after a beer or a cup of coffee I remember that's why I like it. Some people still like working hard for their stuff.

Someone told me there's a green GS being stored at Mount Rushmore in George Washington's nostril camoflauged as a booger for the last 40 years.

I don't think I did a very good job explaining what powerTV is. What powerTV offers V8Buick.com is a video hosting service for your forum. This isn't something where we broadcast videos to your web site, it allows you to upload your own videos into your own video player.

Well, what we were offering to V8 Buick was your own YouTube-style branded player. The members could upload anything they want, or whatever the admins or moderators deemed appropriate.

Jim Weise owns v8buick.com, but this site, and probably about 95% of all the other automotive enthusiast web sites are member supported.

So answer the hard questions and let us make a democratic decision.
Who's brand is headlined on the "branded player"?
Who controls how much outside advertising [your ads] appear on "our":puzzled: player?
What will it cost "our" site to have the privlege of using "your" software?
Who pays for the increased bandwith?
Who pays for the increased storage requirements?
If the product and service you are offering are so great, then why has one man been such a serious threat to bringing you down?

Melissa said your service is "free", but we both know that nothing in life is free... Show us the fine print.

Darryl, here are the answers:

Who's brand is headlined on the "branded player"?

The forums. They can upload their logo and graphics. Check out stangfreaktv (you'll have to add the w w w and the . c o m)

The only branding on powerTV is the lower footer.

Who controls how much outside advertising [your ads] appear on "our" player?

We offer two different programs on this. We have free plan and a paid plan. On a free plan we have the banners and we paid a "per video watched" fee to the forum. On the paid plan, the forum pays for the video bandwidth which is .02 cents per video. The video and software are all completely hosted, there is nothing to install.

What will it cost "our" site to have the privlege of using "your" software?
Under the free plan, nothing. You get paid per video watched (the videos you upload). In the paid plan, you just pay for the bandwidth free which does cover the cost of the servers, tech support, bandwidth, etc.

Who pays for the increased bandwith?
Who pays for the increased storage requirements?

See above.

If the product and service you are offering are so great, then why has one man been such a serious threat to bringing you down?

Well, our company also produces online TV shows. That is what he is attacking, the online TV shows and the links we posted to videos from those shows.

As for him being "one man" - there is no threat of him destroying our company - but apparently he has thousands of hours invested in trying to do so.

I don't know what motivates Jon, but he makes some good points (which I have acknowledged). Unfortuntely, he is so hell bent on attacking the hell of our company, SEMA, Primedia, The Discovery Channel, Learning Channel and all of the rest, that it has become apparent to us that he's not looking for a positive resolution but rather to attract more attention to his web site and to the thread. We've decided to not engage in further dialog with Jon or Hot Rodders.com because we believe he is not interested in a resolution.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

James

James,
I commend you on your quick responce, as well as your direct answers to my questions.

Unfortunately, the "link" ro strangefreaktv did not work.

While I will reserve my ultimate judgement untill all the fineprint can be gone over with a fine tooth comb, I am willing to concede that you, and your company, may be the victom of some bad press and un-due criticizm.

Would you be willing to post some links to [at least] a few web sites who are currently using your service... Both on the free and paid plan, so as we might have a closer look at exactly what were talking about here?

If your having difficulty posting links, PM them to me and I'll post them.

If you want to see a list of different forums and/or sites that use the video player, I'll Pm you a list by the end of the day!

Thanks for your time and understanding.

James,

I have recieved your emails, and seen the posts on the board.. and other info out there.. you have some pretty strong adversaries out there, I wish you well in your business ventures..

Here at V8Buick.com, we pride ourselves in being an independant and member supported forum for information on our cars.

If in the future, we decide that we wish to have our own video hosting service, I would put together a proposal, with a price tag, and offer it to the members here. Should they agree to and support that venture, then we would have our own video hosting site, free of any advertising. We all have worked pretty hard around here, to keep this a fun and stress free place to hang out. In my opinion, over abundance of advertsing on this site would work to defeat what we have built for the last 6 years.

On a personal note, I will say that I am in the Buick Performance and Restoration business, but I respect the commitment that we have all made to this site, to keep it from being nothing more than any companies marketing tool, and that includes my company.. While I will always share information and my opinion when asked, you will be hard pressed to find me overtly advertising my products or services on this site. Were I to do that, I would not ask for donations, I would foot the bill myself.

Thru the early years here, even though I did cover a substantial portion of the costs here, I never lost sight of my initial vision for board - unbiased information on our cars, as well as a friendly place for us to all hang out.

Considering we just passed our Millionth post here a few months back, in a very small community of enthusiasts, I do believe that we are "on target" with what the vast majority of members want out of an enthusiast web board.

With the above facts in mind, I beleive that you can see why we are not at all interested any video hosting service that contains even the slightest trace of advertising.

Regards,

You guys have built a great forum and community. My hat is off to you for building such a great community resource. Should guys decide you wanted assistance with a video player in the future, you can PM me and I'm sure we can work out something that would work. We simply provide you with the hosting service, not any video content. The content is up to you.

Congrats on your hard work with the site. I used to the owner of the National Muscle Car Association before powerTV and we already had a nice field of Buick show cars, and a few hardcore Buick racers.
