Could someone help a Turbo Buick guy decode a cowl tag or point me to a website to do it myself? The tag reads:

ST-66-44617-FL-1 288231
TR 193-B T-T
W-2XG-4F-5K
axle NK 228-N

Thank you very much,
Chris Endres

This is a quick run down of some of what I think it is.
The 66 44617 means 1966/GS/conv.
The FL 1 means it was built in Flint. The 288231 the plant sequence #.
193B / Deluxe front buckets, Yellow
T-T / saddle Mist Poly top and bottom
The 2x / st 300 trans.
NK /3.08 std. axle,
Sounds like a nice car.....Ray

Thank you Ray. The car is actually a hardtop, and the little information I have seen suggests that 44617 should be just that. Everything else jives except interior color, which is white and claimed to be original. Bummer on the standard rear, I hoped it was posi. Naturally, this car is on the other side of the country, so I have yet to look at it in person.

Yes the 17 is a hrdtp. I mixed it up with the rag and hrdtop I have. I to have the 193 B int. code but in a 67. My int. is yellow. I thought it was a dirty white colour as did others but it is in fact yellow.

TR-193-B is the interior trim. For '66, the color is called 'Dove'. They're bucket seats. You usually don't see the '-B' on the trim code, most plants just used the numbers.
Installed options:
W- Tinted windshield
2XG- Auto trans with long console
4F- might be tilt steering wheel column, or belt-reveal molding?
5K- Door edge guards

I haven't seen these items on a cowl plate before:
axle- ??? There's a code stamped on the axle tube. 2.93 ratio is standard, 3.36, 3.55, 3.90, and 4.30 were optional.
NK- ST300 trans used on the GS
228-N- Could be a prod code for the trans.

Was this car advertised on a web site? There's one this color combo that is drop-dead gorgeous....but it's expensive.

Thanks for the additional info Walt. That's not the car, but it is a dead ringer for the one I'm looking at. Where'd you find this one? And how expensive is it?

Just search for 1966 Buick. There's even a GS convertible the same color!
