I bought this 63 riviera as a project with no keys. I am to the point where keys would be good. I wanted to take the switch out and take it to a lock smith but can't get it out. Any tips?

63 used a single key for all locks. You can pull one of the other lock cylinders, door or glove box, and take it to a locksmith to get a key made. I think the cylinders will be stamped with the 4 digit key code. (This assumes all lock cylinders are original.)

John is correct, the locks all started out at the factory keyed alike. So start with the glove box lock and get a key made for it, then try it in the ignition.

If the key to the glove box does not work in the ignition, try it in the doors. If it works in the doors, someone has rekeyed the ignition and you are stuck (see below). But if the glovebox key does not work in the door, either, then someone has rekeyed the glove box and you need to pull a door skin to get the door lock cylinder out. Have a locksmith make a key for it and use it in the ignition.

There is a procedure in the '63 Buick Shop Manual for removal of the ignition switch lock when you do not have a key. It involves drilling a small hole in the lock part of the switch, thus ruining the lock cylinder. You'd be better off not doing that if you can help it.

Good luck.

:) I pulled the door skin and found a code on the lock cylinder, took it to the locksmith and he hooked me up for $15. Thanks!
