Mini Spool

Hey, my plan is to put a ford 9" in, but don't have the cash right now. 83 regal limited, has original rear, it think 273's or something open, 26 spline. is it even worth me buyin a mini spline (they're cheap) just so i'm not running open. i know it's impractial on the street, but so far my car isn't going to be all that practical running 11-1 pistons, small chamber heads.... u get the picture. So my question is, Is it worth it, or just keep it a one wheel wonder till i get the ford rear?

Just weld your spider gears inoperable, if you're willing to live with the chirping and wide turns. :)

I don't weld, would very much like to learn, but don't have the equipment, or knowhow at this time.....?
can i slag weld them? like brazing? that's 'bout all i could do....?

I don't know how much you were planning on spending for the 9" or how much you have to spend all together but you might want to consider buying an 8.5 posi rear from a GN they already have the 3.42 gear ratio good for the 455. The best place to find one is www.turbobuick.com they usually go anywhere from 500.00 - 700.00 and it will hold up to the 455

Hey, figured i'd just go with a ford nine... i can get one complete (with pumpkin) less brakes (already have those) for about 1700 bucks... and i know the 9 inch is stronger, i'd rather spend the extra bucks, and have a rear that'd hold up if i ever build a motor bigger or nastier than what i have..

what makes you think a 8.5 wont hold up a ford 9inch is good know doubt but you can build a 8.5 just as strong with out dropping all that cash right now. if you can find a 8.5 for a decent price right now with a posi and gear you can upgrade axles and to a spool later. a properly built 8.5 will last a long time i didnt break my rearend til i sprayed it off tha line and it was a original 86 rearend so 17yrs isnt a bad lifetime for one

I broke a stock 8.5, but Murphy's Law was written with my Wagon in mind.

The 8.5. will take a hell of a beating and it a bit lighter than the Ford 9. Lets you do a bit of cornering work to the car as well.
