I'd like some feedback on the current value of a 1937 motor and transmission. The motor is complete, and was running when removed 25 to 30 yrs ago. It's been sitting since. It will turn over by hand. Mileage is unknown. I don't know if it's the 248ci or 322ci version. Is there an easy way to tell? I'm located in the Southeast. The guy is also throwing the original rearend into the deal.

Any help would be appreciated. :Do No:

Thanks.

Look up"THE OLD GUY" on this board and send him a PM. He would probably be about the best source here.

The easiest way to tell a small series from a big one is the exhaust manifold. If the manifold is one piece for all 8 cylinders .it is a small (248) series. If the manifold has a center section and pieces that fit into it for the front and rear cylinders, it is the big(320 ) series.
If it a big series , be sure to take the rear end as it is worth as much as the engine. The 320 rear end is a 3.9 ratio, and is very desirable for todays roads. The 248 runs a 4.4 axle and does not go well on the interstates.
Prices vary by territory, but the rear end is worth $350-$400 in this area ,and the exhaust manifold alone in worth $400-$500
They are repopping the manifold, but not the gear, so it may be worth more.
