HI,

ALSO WHAT ARE THE NUMBERS (CODES) UNDER IGNITION/TRUNK

http://community.webtv.net/CUSTOMD/CUSTOMDSXTREMCARS

These are the key codes. I just recently took the codes for one of my cars to a local locksmith and he was able to cut me keys that worked perfectly in my car. He even had the correct NOS GM blanks. Obviously the codes would not be correct if your locks or ignition cylinder in the column have been replaced. Also, it's not a good idea to post your key codes for others to see....

Not because of the privacy laws, they probably just didn't have a listing that matched yours. If you post the # on here there are some guys that can usually tell you what dealer it is. There is also a list of dealers on this website: http://www.buickgsx.net/gsxhome.htm look under "codes"

When I got the sloan info for one of mine, they were only able to give me the number and someone on this board was able to tell me what dealer it was.

If you want to post a picture of the Sloan Documentation we could probably answer some of your questions. If you are worried, you could block out the last 6 digits of the vin and the key codes, for security reasons.

A picture of the firewall ID plate would also help in answering the questions.

I remember seeing a sales code under the '4' for this car when it was on Ebay several years ago.

Unfortunately, I cannot find the thread. Here are other threads about this car -

I remember seeing the Sloan paperwork on this exact car, and yes, this 1972 48-G paint code GS350 is a factory GSX :bglasses:

More than one limemist GSX was made in 71. At least two Board members own one. So there would seem to no technical reason, other then the daily car reports, for a 72 not to exist.

I thought it must be the same car that was on ebay a few years ago since the '72 GSX is so rare and this one is also Hunter Green. For some reason I really wanted to buy that car. I really like the Hunter Green cars

To answer your order form question, they don't list manual windows because they are standard equipment. If you don't order power windows you get them automatically. This form basically lists additional cost options.:TU:

Your Sloan paperwork would show the vinyl top in the "Color" section where the 3 boxes are, the last box would be the vinyl top. Yours should say "I I 9" for Hunter Green with a green vinyl top.

Zone 4 is Washington DC (Zone office), without the last 3 digits (dealer code) you will not be able to find out who the original dealer was. Zone 4 covered Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and parts of Pennsylvania so your car could have came from any of those states.

Car Is 350/4,auto,bench Seat,column Shift,black And White Interior,no A/c,f41,sport Mirrors,am/fm,8 Track,rear Speaker,no Power,hunter Green Body,hunter Green Top,road Wheels.
Im Not Real Keen On Puting That Top Back On This Car,my Opinion Is Not Going To Look Right (i May Just Leave That Option Up To The Next Owner),i Am Going To Add The Hood Tach.
When I Bought The Car The Factory Front Spoiler Was In The Trunk (baged With Instalation Info),gs Hood Was Gone Along With The Air Cleaner Housing (the Ram Air Front Section Was In The Trunk)car Wasnt Realy Bad At All (dents And Ding Mostly)car Has Been Macco'd At One Time (close To Factory Green) And The Vinyle Top Was Gone, minor Rust In Floors (front Only) Trunk Not Bad But Some Rust.
All Windows Seam To Be Factory And Nice, bumpers Very Straight But Chrome Bad.
Iv Hunted Down The Sonomatic Am/fm And The 8 Track Along With Some Other Small Items Missing On The Car.

Customd,
If the car didn't come with a hood tach, you might want to re-consider putting one on. The hood tach cars in 72 had a rubber hose attached to them with a 1-way valve, special clips, and special fittings that went into the air box. These pieces are extremely hard to find, and without them, people will know the hood tach was added.

My 71 GSX came with an in-dash tach and gauges, and I am leaving it that way.

Just some friendly advise.

The face of the 72 hood tach is completely different then the ones for a 70 or 71, so there is no way I would use that one. If you want to install one you should at least use the correct one for that year.

Thank you for giving us info on your car, that is a very unique machine.
To complement what Duane has said the 72 factory GS/GSX hood tach face is different from 71-72 face.
I had a legit 72 GSX 350 a few years ago and it was a factory UB5 factory hood tach car.The tach redline was a solid curving stripe underneath the white RPM lines over 5k opposed to the 70-71 tachs where the red is the RPM lines over 5K.
Also, starting in late 1970 all Pontiac GTO's and Buick GS cars factory equipped with a hood tach have a small plastic elbow rivited to the top side of AC shround or non AC heater box ,a hose attached to it with a one way valve imbetween that routed up to plug on to the underside of the hood tach.
This was to route heated air to hood tach to keep condensation out of tach.
I have a 70 GTO Judge that has this arrangement and it was built mid June 1970 build date so any cars built after that to be correct would have what I just described.
Keep us updated on your progress

SABAU CHEVROLET-BUICK INC, LURAY, VA is the dealership that I am showing in my database for 04-365. Do you have the Sloan paperwork. I would like to get a copy if possible and please register the car with the GSX Registry. If you have any questions about the registry please let me know. I am excited about another 72 GSX. There are so few of them it would be cool to get more documentation on one.

Mark posted "SABAU CHEVROLET-BUICK INC, LURAY, VA is the dealership that I am showing in my database for 04-365"

That's funny, because my old 71 350 GSX was ordered by the same dealer. When I talked to the original salesman, he told me that they stocked GSX's and used them as a draw to get people into the dealership.

I think it is your can and you should do whatever you want with it. I also think adding items that were not part of the car will ultimately detract from the price of the car. A collector willing to pay good money would want what was orginal on the car. Thats my 2 cents.

Again, Please consider registering the car in the GSX registry. Also if you can get a copy of the Sloan paperwork Duane can really help you or I will definetly try. Black out the key information or whatevery if you don't want people to know that but at least send the option information to be decoded.

Thanks,

Mark

Remember, you asked for an opinion,

You have 1 of only 44 1972 GSX's that were ever built,
You have 1 of only like 9-10 documented cars,
You have all the paperwork needed to restore it exactly like it was, which means you have 10 times more info then most of us.

Now I know, it's a 350 and not a 455 or Stage 1, and it's Green on Green with a Green vinyl top, but why do you want to keep messing with it?

I can understand not putting the vinyl top back on, as you could always add it later, but the value of the car is in it's rarity, NOT in the options it has. If you keep changing things, who's to say that the "next" owner will want it exactly like you do. You may end up altering the car so much that it would be cost prohibitive to change it back, and may hurt the re-sale value for someone that wants a correctly restored car.

I know of a 71 Red GSX that started out life as a 350 non-ac, no optioned car. Now it is a Stage 1, AC, power window/power locks, bucket seat, etc etc, and in my opinion it would have been better off to leave it alone.

My gut advice is to either leave it stock or sell it to someone that will. If you want to mess with something then play with a Skylark, so you won't hurt it's value.

And before anyone bitches, remember that you asked.

If you want to talk about any of this, then PM me your number and a time to call at night. A name would also be helpful, so I will know who I am talking to.

Keep it original and unique, as soon as you modify the car by loading it up with options than you will be explaining your actions and it will look the same as the sea of 72 GSX clones out there.
Again it is your car, but having the car restored the way it was built makes for a trully unique car, preserving it original character.
This just my opinion, so hope you don't mind me expressing it.
Thanks

I purchased a 72 GS, Stage one last year that needs full restoration. It is also Hunter Green with a green vinyl top. The interior is White buckets with black carpet. I plan on putting the vinyl top back on only because I believe the car should be original. My car is 1 of 627. Again this is my two cents (Like everyone else has said) I would leave it completely original including the vinyl top. What a conversation piece it is going to be with it back to original. Buick was famous for weird colors and combinations. So if you don't put the vinyl top on, are you going to cut the rivets off and fill the thru holes for the moulding or are you just going put the moulding on with no top?
