View Full Version : Please "proof" the alternator conversion diagrams-->>
I thought it would be nice to have some Buick diagrams instead of chevy ones for the old style ext reg to the new SI style int reg alternators so i spent a couple of minutes in an image editing program and here we go.
I'm putting it here before I post it online, please let me know if you think anything should be added, removed, or is incorrect. The links at bottom won't work until I publish it.

u have too much spare time on your hands. diagrams look great!
do u think u should add the other wires that also attach to the starter/solenoid terminals - ie for the headlights ?
i installed a 2 wire alternator last summer but i bought the conversion kit (the adaptor to bypass the voltage regulator & the pigtail at the alternator . i did this in case i ever wanted to re-install the voltage regulator + alternator .
tkx
Well I work odd shifts and sometimes after nightshifts I just can't sleep, so I play with this stuff. only took about 15 minutes anyway....
The diagram at the top is the original and they have a seperate one for headlights etc...mostly I did it just to show the mod and make it easier to understand.
Problem is, I'm such a fanatic that I will most likely never do the mod anyway!!LOL
You see much improvement from the new setup??

i changed the alternator because it was starting to squeal a little and since i had to adjust the voltage regulator, earlier last year, i decided that i might just as well perform the upgrade . i do not notice any signifigant changes with the two wire alternator, as i have no power windows or locks or seat . the only hardware besides the engine using the current is the 8 track player . i guess it give me more piece of mind using the newer hardware .
