New guy here. I have a 55 Buick Special. I remember seeing a kit to install lights in the portholes, but I can't remember where online I saw it. I think it may have been on EBay awhile back. Anyone know anything about it or something similar? Thanks.

Tim, I've never seen a kit, but that doesn't mean anything. My 56 had sockets in it, not sure where they came from, but I'm going to use 194 sidemarker sockets with led bulbs in them.:idea2: Not sure what color of bulbs to use though. they come in yellow, red, white. I'm also thinking of useing a sequencer on them so it looks like they are really firing:bglasses: I know everybody liked them with the clear bulbs in them. Good luck, Bill:beer

Gawd they used to sell them in J.C.Whitney about 25 years ago, you must be old too:laugh:
I would try and use the new led style lights for a better fit and brightness:TU:

If you were referring to me, no I'm not that old. Although I do feel that way where I work. I think I saw the kit on EBay, because what I remember that caught my attention was that it was supposed to be a vintage after market kit. My general policy on restoring my car has been to keep my car as original in appearance on the outside and with the interior as much as possible. I have had to make exceptions under the hood since I'm somewhat limited by funds and I lack experience with cars. I thought a vintage kit might provide me with a loophole in my stance and alow me to customize a little. I have to admit the LED method sounds much better though. I may take that route. Thanks for the replies guys. This website is going to help me alot. :beers2:

Yea, I'm old enough to know better:bla: I'm going to use the led l94 bulbs. You can get used sockets at the wrecking yard for cheap. I just have to figure the sequencer out. I think radio shack has those. :beer Bill

I bought LED's from radio shack that mount petty close to flush No sockets, just a led with with wires. You drill a hole push the led assembly thru and screw on the nut. I did mine in red. I also saw some inverted lens LED's somehere that project the light around in a halo type form so instead of a beeming light, it'll light the edges of your portholes. That's what i'm doing next time. Can't tremember where i saw them though.
have a good time

This sounds like a great way to get more looks!!! Do you have pictures of these in action. I have never seen them and it sounds like a great and pretty easy idea

Tim,I like the idea of using "period correct" custom touches on the outward appereance myself,I like to take my liberties under the hood:Brow: .If not available, you could possibly reproduce the vintage kit and nobody would know the difference, the old timers will probably aprove:eek2: Pictures?Welcome to the board!:beers2:

I'm going to be taking some digital pictures of my car in the next couple days while I'm tackling some brake issues. I'll post the pics sometime this weekend. I want to try and track my progress from now on with the pictures. I'm planning on getting some body work done and having it repainted later in the year so now is a good time to start documenting it. :kodak:
