Junkyard in Northern WI

Last time I was there was about 10 years ago. Located in Hayward, WI, a place called Simons Junkyard or Salvage. Not sure on the spelling. Yard had alot of old stuff, may be worth the search. 66cat

The name is Simon's. I was up there in fall 2005. Not too many Buicks and what is left is pretty rusty or most usable parts off already. TONS of Studebakers in that yard. Not sure how much is left. Last time we were up there they were running some cars through the crusher.

Dan Lapham and I were up there shortly after Kris was and there were some older cars left, but they were extremely rusty and well picked over. There is a yard called Kessler's at Earl WI which had some 60's cars and a number of Buicks, but it would be a compliment to the workers at yard to call them merely "strange!" These two guys are what insprired the moive "Deliverance" except without the canoes. Do NOT go alone!

Earl is about 20 miles south of Hayward and the yard is about 1/4 east of town. Really, don't go there by yourself!

Those same guys work at a yard or two in NC. (Deliverance was filmed in part on a river that originates in NC.)

Tim, I've decided there is a direct correlation between how strange people get and the number of cars that surround them.

I know I had a LOT more common sense when I only had two cars-now all I can think about is bringing home another...and another....:puzzled:

Obviously, the number of vehicles affects the junkyard guys even more until they become some sort of car zombies. Now, all I need to do is find some well funded government grant to study this issue and some serious study time in the field, preferably at a yard with mid 60's-70's Buicks. :Smarty:

Hello don't forget Jack's auto ranch out in the Johnson's Creek area, has some pretty decent stuff, I've found alot of parts for my old Mark v, when I started to look at the electra it had alot of brush around it and I stepped through a windshield!, so be carefull and bring a saw and some shears! Earles had some decent cars, but they were in a mostly disorganized mess out in the woods. The two 'characters' that Tim talks about don't know the cars/models except by using grill pictures to id-such as the old Motors manuals used-then they can take you to them. They shoot goofy high prices, but seeing cash would probably change that. It would be best having two guys to pull parts and two more armed guards to keep watch of these wierdos-no kidding

I'm thinking more about the guys who keep picking up cars and have a little acreage. Before long, things seem to get a little out of hand. Nature hates a void, yanno. :)

And if I was going to point fingers anywhere it has to be at my family first. You know how many cars my Dad has-assuming you count Crosley's as cars...

I had a VERY STRANGE conversation trying to figure out why he was dropping off the old rear end of my 67 at my brothers house. Mind you, this is the one that I had to replace because it was totally gone-it's no good. I asked why he wanted it and my father said "Um...I don't know." Then I started thinking about all the broken, no good parts I've been helping my dad move over the years and it suddenly hit me that my brother is turning into my father.

It was funny until I realized I am probably next. :shock:

Hooked, yes. Doomed, NEVER! Turning into our parents isn't such a bad thing, just think about the wonderful, well adjusted kids they had!:TU:
I'm sure that in even the most grenaded rear differential assembly, something like a lug stud or backing plate may have survivied! The only downside to being involved in Buicks is the scarcity of reproduction and NOS parts, especially for the big cars, so saving all those parts is a good thing, or at least that is what I keep telling myself. I'm not sure if a Crosley counts as a real car or more of a powered scale model! :Do No:

i was at jacks in johnson creek 2 yrs ago,i told him i wanted a steering column for my century,well he took one out and i looked at it with my brother in law and this thing didnt look like it was worth 5 bucks,he wanted 50.00.told him i dont want it,he told me were not going to do business like this boys,then i looked at my brother in law and was hoping we were going to get out of there alive,was kinda a weird situation.have fun there.hehe

we where just out in PA and we found a yard outside of butler
the stuff was untouched
66gs, nailhead notor sitting in it
lots of 40's to 60's cars
but rusty
it will be gone in a few years
and then right out of washington PA south of pitt.

she said they are going to crush in 2 years
alot of stuff in there
as well as the york yard
upper michigan has a few good ones as well to hit

Why did you not just ask for a price FIRST instead of wasting his time and effort, by the way it was 2005 and a $5.00 steering column does not exist any more. Henry

Hey Greg,

No, he hasn't. My pop usually doesn't go to junkyards-although he is always more than happy to give me a shopping list when he hears I am going. We had a group up to French Lake last fall on a gorgeous day after Thanksgiving and got some stuff for his 78 Riv.

I'm still hoping to hit a few later this year, assuming that work slows down some day and I get some weekends free again. I'll have to ask where all the good spots are!
