OK, so I bought an NOS '64 dual exhaust muffler thinking that it would look, well new. How stupid of me. Can anyone provide some advise as to getting it looking better than new again? Paint, clean up etc.....go to Eastwood's Cat and just hangout???

Thanks!

Gary,

Try a wheel cleaning solution that is not recommened for polished wheels. Contains acid solution. Try in a hidden spot first.

Can you recommend a cleaner?

Thanks!

Is it surface rust or just storage dust? If it's rust and not to bad, naval jelly will remove the rust easily. Follow that with a high temp primer and paint.

If you plan on showing the car in a BCA event, do not paint the muffler, it will cost you points.
Just use a mild cleaner mixed into some very fine steel wool.

I have several NOS mufflers for my 64 wildcats, when I put them away, I used steel wool and then a light oil to seal the steel from rust.

Gary,

I use a local product made by Dura Gloss. Eagle make a wheel cleaner just make sure it lists phosphoric acid in the ingredients. The bottle usually says not safe for polished wheels.
