I just wanted everyone to get this on your calendar. The Puget Sound Chapter of the BCA will be holding the 14th Annual All Buick Open in Puyallup, Washington, Saturday June 9th.

This show has grown to one of the largest Buick shows on the West Coast, and the premier Buick event in the Pacific Northwest with 125 - 175 cars in attendance each year.

This show is a great primer before the 2007 BCA Nationals held in Bellevue. I believe there may be an opportunity to have your car go through a "mock" 400 point judging so that you know what you need to fix before the Nats! (space limited).

Contacts are Brian Laurance - ("Centurion" here on the board) 253-864-0722 or Doug Wolford - 253-770-1413. If you are a BCA member the pre-registration entry fee is $10.00, Non BCA member $12.00, Day of Show registration is $14.00. We hope to see you there.

Address is 115 2nd Avenue SE, Puyallup WA in case anyone is using Mapquest for directions. It's at the site of the old Wilen-Cornforth Buick dealer. There are always lots of Buicks new and old.

Show starts at 10, but parking starts at 8 or earlier. If you don't get there until 10 or later you probaby won't get to park with similiar model cars. Awards at 4, I think voting closes at 1 or 2 (takes a while to count the votes).

Participant ribbons, Peer Judging, 1st, 2nd and 3rd awards in all classes. Lots of good food and fun, and there is a street fair going on, so all the stores are open, and there are arts and crafts booths, food booths, BEER GARDEN , live bands, inflatable toys for the kids, etc., perfect for those that don't want to spend all day looking at Buick's (not sure who that would be).

There are about 20 different classes, so there is something for everyone!

They are renovating downtown Puyallup so the parking arrangement will be a little different than usual, and you will have to enter the show about 1 block north of last year. Please be patient with the folks putting on the show!

Hope to see you all there!

The BCA has now set up a secure membership link, allowing you to join or renew online with a credit card.

Go to: www.buickclub.org

Look on the upper left-hand side of the home page, and you will see the secure membership link. Alternatively, you can print out the form and mail in your application.

I think that you will notice a great improvement in the "Bugle" magazine since you were last a member. Pete Phillips, the new editor, is a true Buick guy, and it really shows in the publication.

The puyallup show is great but I can't make it again this year. Too far from southern Nevada. But I encourage anyone that can make it to do so, as someone else said it is one of the best shows on the west coast.:TU:
One word of caution be careful of the beer garden. My friend John Curtis
(71 Centurian Conv.) and I had to recruit a couple of designated drivers to get us home after too many rounds of a micro brew called Safari Amber.
The sad part of that story is John won second place in stock Buick and had to have someone else claim the prize for him.:Dou: Its a great show.

Hi Chris,

I'm planning my first trip to the Puyallup show, but need a little guidance. Everytime I try to map-out directions with mapquest or Google, I get sent to 2nd STREET (not Avenue), or some other street all together (in one case, Meeker). I can see 2nd Avenue on the map, but for some reason these mapping programs will not pinpoint 115 2nd Ave SE. What is the nearest cross street to the show?

Thanks!

I see what you mean. I'm sure that when you get there all you'll have to do is ask. I think I'll have to get out my military map and find a grid coordinate for it. Now if I can only find that compass...But..there's cars and beer involved...I WILL PREVAIL!!! :beers2:

I'm going to be up in Everett trying to cover around 13 - 15 miles, on foot, in 3 hours. Now doesn't that sound like fun!?

Mind you, this isn't a controlled route - we'll be on the fly, having to obey (most) traffic laws, etc...

So when are you going to give me that bench seat???:Brow:

I was in CA the last couple of days with no internet access, sorry for the delay in answering.

Here's last year's Everett route map. We did this in under 2hr 40mn, which would have extrapolated out to 14.25 miles:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=248317

Considering that the marathoners were doing 16.4 miles in the same amount of time, I have no problem with that!

Maybe we'll have to bring you on the team when we do one of the races later in the season - we're always up for company along the route!:TU:

My suggestion for getting to the show:

You'll see Highway 512 on your maps. Those coming from the north on Highway 167 will want to follow the "Puyallup" signs and get onto Highway 512.

Those coming from Interstate 5 will find it easiest to take Exit 127 in south Tacoma. You will head east toward Puyallup on Highway 512.

From Highway 512 (regardless of the direction you're traveling), you should take the Pioneer Ave. exit. This is just a few blocks east of downtown Puyallup.

On Pioneer Ave., head west toward the city center. Turn right onto 3rd Street at the traffic signal. Travel a couple of short blocks north on 3rd Street. The entrance to the Buick show will be to the left at E. Main Street. If you cross the railroad tracks, you've gone too far.

This route will minimize your need to figure out the one-way streets or blockaded streets for the street fair.

I'll have my cell on as well: 253-678-4244

I am pretty sure I had Rick go and look at this car for me last summer, down in SE Washington when it was priced at $3k. Rick and I didn't even feel like it was worth offering $2,500, so we didn't. The paint job was a quicky, real orange peeling and spotty. If it wasn't so wet at the show, you would have noticed. It may have been buffable, but not sure, and I wasn't going to buy it and take a chance. Not sure what the guy who had it paid for it.

Had a great time. Was good to meet those of you that were there. Can't wait til the big one in July. Maybe...just MAYBE:pray: I'll have my Kitty painted by then. Yeah I see a few old Buicks around the Lakewood and Ft. Lewis area. Saw a 65 Chrysler Imperial that blew my socks off, and found out it belonged to a Major I know...mmmmmmmmm...and she wants power windows...told her she was nuts...go figure..

Thanks to all of you who braved the rain and turned out. I appreciate the great photos you've all posted.

It was great to meet Sergeant Major, dmfconsult, Eric, and GS-XNR for the first time, and always fun to see everyone's cool Buicks.

Really looking forward to seeing all of you and even more Buicks at the Nationals next month.

Perhaps some of the forum regulars would like to consider something to stick on or add to your National Meet nametags to designate you as a V8Buick member. This could make it easier for us to recognize one another. Alternatively, you might want to consider planning a meal together or other meeting time to make sure that everyone has a chance to meet. I'm a member of a '59 Buick forum, for example, and one of our members driving his '59 from Kansas is putting together special buick-59.com nametags. We're meeting with our cars for photos following the Wednesday (July 25) Museum of Flight tour, followed by dinner together at Salty's in West Seattle. The BCA (Buick Club of America) forum members are planning a breakfast get-together at the host hotel on Friday morning, July 27. So, I'm just throwing the idea out there in case anyone wants to plan something for the V8Buick folks.

I'd certainly be in for that... I had been planning on writing my V8 username on the card that will be displayed in the windshield! As far as getting together, I won't be coming in until the Friday afternoon, so I might miss it if it happens earlier.

Hey!! Didn't anyone get a picture of my goergeous '65 blue Skylark 4 door? After all, it did win 3rd place in its class. (and most ambitious project!)

I wouldn't have minded if it was a convertible but if someone brought 1 more non-convertible A Body to the show, I wouldn't have won third place!! Assuming, of course it was a nicer car than mine which wasn't too much of a stretch. Actually it was because the Kunderts listed their 70 4 door as display only that she won third.

Roy,
She's a beaut. I think that next time we need to park next to each other. Have a "Cars only an owner could love" corner.
