In the past, Rick had set up camp at the track and cordoned off a nice area just behind and to the side of the staging lanes. I'm not sure if he'll be doing that this year or not.

Looks like I will bring the family and the car but I won't be camping out the night before. Hopefully we can all park and pit together like we have done in years past.

Well I'll be there to watch and hopefully get a few photos in. I need to commit to having my car completed and ready to race for next year. It's not far away theoretically - just financially.

I'll be there with my new Buick buddy, but without my Skylark. It's under going some changes soon. Will definately have the car there next year for sure. Always fun to watch. John Biggs.

We won't have the 70 Stage 1 car there....I'm going to a wedding. I was planning on it since last year and completed quite a few projects to hopefully improve on the numbers. But my brothers wedding is priority this year. I would've liked to meet some new faces too and hung around with old friends. If those two yahoo's with the GTO's are there (67 & 70) please put them on their trailers early just like last year :TU:
I'm gonna miss it big time!
Show 'em what Buick power is all about.

What did Alaska Airlines do to mess you up?

Dave, your presence will be missed. I am screwed to run, can't tech as i have no rag on the top. I would love to run the vert as it is absolutely stupid..I can't keep it off the rev limiter:TU:

ZZHopefully Glen and Rick can hold the fort:pray:

I am bringing my best man and his 68 Goat vert also with our kidlets...going to be a blast, but the track I am worried BUICK will be lacking some ready iron.

That's too bad, but it's better than putting all your eggs into your racecar "basket" to show up and have it not run right. Unfortunately that happens so often with these sort of events. If it doesn't get raced regularly, it isn't ready to go at a moment's notice and that's when the gremlins start showing up.

Adam,
What did Alaska Airlines do to mess you up?

Well, the Horizon division had an FAA warning and subsequent grounding of a specific plane model made by Bombardier that had some landing gear problems in Europe. This same model plane services virtually all of their routes into MT and Idaho. So instead of forewarning everyone that had travel booked, they just let them show up at the check-in to be informed they would have to be rerouted if possible often with substantial delay. They worked out a re-route through Denver that would have put me in Seattle at 11:30 PM, followed by the drive to Everett, to be nice and sparkly for my interview at 8 AM Friday morning. Then, I was supposed to return on Sunday so that I could meet with a consultant here in MT for my current employment responsibilities. Long(er) story short, I had no guarantee to be back to MT in time for my Mon. morning meeting either! :blast: http://www.alaskasworld.com/Newsroom/QXNews/QXstories/QX_20070914_125838.asp

This is all supposed to be without my current employer knowing, so I couldn't risk a problem with missing the meting with the consultant and being back to regular work in ID on Tues. I only hope I can get another interview time squeezed into my schedule soon. But either way, no BOP :ball:

wow, looks like only a whole 3 buicks will be showing. what a dissapointement.

71GS455
09-14-2007, 11:36 PM
That's too bad. I did hear about the Horizon thing.
There will be more than 3, but many of them won't be from v8buick (or at least not regulars). Scotty Krone should be there, but he races there every weekend. There's always the group of GN's and Turbo T's that show up.

Also, don't expect it to only be the BOP races. They've also got other things going as there isn't enough turnout of BOP cars to make it worthwhile to only run them. I know the Car Club Challenge racers will be there.

Glen, what boat are you going to be on?

Steve, are you not bringing your car still?

Hey Rick, I will look for the parts, but, I dno't have aAC alt bracket, they sell on each engine. Also, no extra fire jacket, but, I am sure someone will let you borrow one if needed.

Can anyone think of anything they need, I will look.

See you all there:TU:

I talked to Scotty Krone last night and he will be there. There will be plenty more as they don't all post on this board. I am all ready as I had to put some new safety belts on last night. Lets see if we can clean up.

What time do you plan on being there, Rick?

Great Day as usual at the Bremerton Motor Sports Park! Too bad it is only once a year for the BOP event, but, that place is old school as you can sit /stand within 15 feet of the burnout water trap within the same distance to the track.

Thanks for turning out guys. Next year looks to have some real promise, as there will have to be more folks showing up to run. Steve you should be ready and hopefuly our work horse Dave will make it. Glen and Rick, your cars ran hard! Great work, tough lights! Good to meet wormwood and Scott. Good seeing Jim and his very supporting wife there in the Stage1 too.

I wish I still had a drag car! With any luck, my vert will be trackable next year, so I can do my part to make a BUICK showing. I have no plans to ever put a roll bar in it so that will really limit my input.

The kids and I had a blast and the road trip in the vert was great. That thing runs so strong and was flawless. 4:11's keep the rpm around 3K for the 20 miles to the track on HWY 3 and HWY 305 from our place, throw in a few times bumping off the rev limiter messing with my pal in his GTO who made the trip with us.

See ya next year!

Pics are:
1.Scott in his Copper 71
2 Rick H launching that monster hard running White BUICK
3.Glen launching in that gorgeous blue GS
4.Glen waring up the meats on his way to a unfortunate Red line
5.Glen on a 12.56 run (red lite). That was a great hard run though.

It was good to get out to the track again. I think BOP 2006 was my last trip. It gets the juices flowing, but of course the season is just about at an end here. Things are in much better shape for me to plan for next year.

Here are a few of my photos:

1) Wormwood (Dan) hiding out in the far lane
2) Rick making smoke
3) Rick looking for daylight under his tire
4) Scotty Krone doing the same
5) Glen on his red-light launch (but you can't see the tree, so nobody has to know)

I'm glad you-all had a great time.

If this interview goes well, I'll be looking for some friends in the area to talk and race cars with. Affording a place to have and work on my car may be the challenge once I've settled into a new job and all of the related stuff. Having the great resources for parts and equipment would be a great improvement over what I have now though!

If you end up in Everett, it's not nearly as bad as areas closer to Seattle or on the eastside (Bellevue, Redmond, and Kirkland). Still, this seems to be one area of the country where house valuse have considered to rise even as they sales have slowed.

Great Pics, Steve!!! I can't wait till your in one of these next year:beers2:

Hopefully I can find someone who can record some air under the tires like Rick's! The amazing thing about Rick's is that he put his good heads and his cam on a stock SF motor and is still running into the 11's! And that's on a car that hasn't been racing since last year's BOP.

Check out that wrinkle and the lift!

Chris,
I don't know about everybody else, but I ran 11.98, 12.17, 11.96, 12.02. I couldn't find my log book, and I forgot all of my special setting. Thats what happened to the 12.17 run anyway. I tried starting out at a lower stall.

Someday Chris, we are going to have to convince you to come out and play.

Hey Rick, you looked pretty good out there yesterday!

I got bit by the drag bug hard yesterday and really would have loved to run the vert just once to see what it would do; oh well.

I am going to get the 4 door set up the track. I will not use anything from the vert (except the rear battery / shut off set up of course) so we are going to start with iron out of the stash and get busy in the shop over the winter.

First step is getting verifying that the drag meats fit under it, then getting the 350 out of the 4 door to Al; I will call him. I also need a good rearend for it. Does anyone have a rearend for sale? I would even go FORD 9 inch if need be:TU:

Oh, I thought I was cured of the drag racing bug:Do No: This is starting to look expensive :Dou: :Dou:

well, what an extremely dissapointing day for me at the track. Although i had a great time and everyone was real nice especially dean who helped adjust my carbeurator so i wasnt stalling out at the end of the track, my times were crushing to my hopes. Ive ran a best 11.9 at this track 2 years ago my best time was a 13.4 yesterday. And this is after a full port job and cam increase! oh well, back to the drawing board for me. :Do No:

Anybody who has been drag racing for a while has spent money and ended up going slower. Years ago I spent over $1,000 and ended up going from low 13's to low 14's in my Camaro...DOH! :Dou:

Any ideas why you slowed down? Is it by chance a torque converter mismatch with your new combo?

wormwood
09-29-2007, 08:35 PM
im not sure. i dont think that its a torque convertter issue, although i wont rule it out. im thinking that its a ignition timing problem combined with a too small carb. Thanks for the idea with the converter i didnt even think about that, something to look into.
