I took the 1950 Buick Special for a ride the other day and the car started to sputter, thinking that the gas gauge was not working and the car was running out of gas, I put about 20 dollars of gas in it. I pulled out of the gas station and the car continued to sputter, I tried to make it home but left me on the side of the road just 2 blocks from the house. The fuel pump went KAPUT. Have called around and can't get one, but can order a rebuild kit for the dual diaphragm pump.

Thats a beautiful car you have there. My Holden ute's fuel pump shat out 3 houses up from my place (glad I could push it home). GOes to show, when they die, they flat out die. Good luck with the rebuild

Well, I found a fuel pump on ebay that was rebuild a few years ago, But even if I have to rebuild it again, now I'll have a spare for the future, in case it happens again.

Well, I got the fuel pump in the mail yesterday, proceeded to remove the pump on the car, after carefully soaking the fittings with WD40 and removing the lines with line wrenches, I removed the pump and placed it on the bench next to the new rebuild and noticed that it was not going to fit without modications to the lines. A test fit of the pump, show that the base that fits against the block would not cover the hole :Do No: I will sent away for a rebuilt kit and fix the old one.

No updates yet, still waiting for the rebuilt kit to come in. The Nifty Fifty remains under it's cover another weekend, Took the 69 for a nice ride in the Mountains, Brother -in-law took the GSx along also, the temperture was great, not too hot just perfect for the cars :TU:

The rebuilt kit finally came in this week, the fuel pump and kit were dropped off to get rebuilt today. Hope to have the Nifty Fifty running by this weekend. I also have a lead on dual carb intake and split exhaust manifold for dual exhaust.

If the dual set up if from a 41-42, you wil have some real problems clearing the motor mount on the drivers side. The dual system was used on Buicks that had a front mount, and will be tough to use

Thanks Joe for the infor, but I think that it was for a 49 or 50 based on the gentleman that has it, he has like 4 Buicks 2-49's and 2-50's. I will bring it up to him when I see him again.

Hey Louie! Too bad about the '50, just a minor setback I'm sure. At least you have some good stuff to fall back on, my '70 goes down and I got nothing! How far up did you guys ride?

Gary, Brother in law, myself and five others drove up to Big Indian NY, near phonecia, was like 85 miles from Wappingers one way. Gary did you see the 68 Skylark Custom that came with me to Albany show? Guy has to sell it and will let it go for 12,500.00 needs nothing but a driver.

The fuel pump was taken apart and it was discovered that there was a lot of crud and debris inside, was left soaking for a few days and might be finished by Monday.

Louie, have you considered running an inline electric pump?I know a couple of people who drive their '40-'50's cars and most run an electric pump for peace of mind.Just a thought.

Hector, Yes it was considered, 6 volt electric pump, but then you would also have to change the wiper system to an electic one also. :beer

Update, I was told that the fuel pump would be ready at the begining of the week, but an untimely event set things back a few days. The guy doing the re-built was attacked by Bees on Monday morning (over 40 stings) at the shop. :eek2: He advised me today that it was almost complete and should have for the weekend. :TU:

Well, My Nifty fifty has been very nifty as I cruise around town running errands. Been on a few trips of 50 miles or more and had no problems. I need to get a set of radial tires, those bias ply have to much play in the sidewalls.
