View Full Version : Going under the knife tomorrow

I'm going for my brain transplant in the morning........:Dou: OK, just kidding.
I'm going in to have my total elbow replacement (done June, 2006) REPAIRED. The metal piece in my forearm is no longer attached to the bone in my forearm. They will remove the metal piece, and a good chunk of my bone. Replace my bone with a piece of donor bone, and insert a new (longer/stronger) metal piece. About a 2 or 3 hour surgery
Should be there a couple days, if all goes well. I'm not feeling it right now, close to having an anxiety attack. Have to be there by 5:30 in the morning - which means I have to leave here around 4:15 or so. Don't think I'll be getting much sleep. Doesn't help that my local support system is gone on vacation this week. :Dou: Bad timing, but at least I made it to Norwalk first!
Any   and thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

No drinking Rexxy - 48 hours beforehand! :af: House on standby? Sounds interesting......
#1 issue - live through the anesthesia. Last year, I had apparently stopped breathing during the surgery.
#2 issue - avoid an infection. I've already had one, and if it comes back and won't behave, they send the Arm Nazi (think "Soup Nazi" from Seinfeld) and then.......No Arm for You!!!
#3 issue - they expect me to "do less" for a YEAR! :Do No: What's that mean?? No more bales of hay?? :ball: Anyone wanna be my Stable Boy? How about my dedicated pit crew?
Last year, I went in on Monday, and the following Thursday I went to Indy......so I'm hoping for a similar 'recovery' time!
Thanks all!! :pp :pp

I know we haven't typed at each other for a while and I really didn't take the time to talk much in Norwalk, as I've been incredibly busy (again!), but I certainly do wish you all the BEST in your surgery and your speedy recovery!

Bob,
I searched and there's not one to be had! I believe they stopped putting them back up because they were always being hiested. Someone probably has a small collection of them, but to find that person may be impossible!
I'll keep trying, but short of "fabbing" one up for you, you may be out of luck!

Oh Shari, you mentioned pool boy, there's a story there from BG about 4years ago, when 3 of our best Michigan GS boys, stayed in the same room at the Fairfield Inn, and we called them every morning for Raoul, the pool boy and got a different one every day, what fun!
Annie wasn't around for that, we'll have do have a redo, someday!

Got 'released' this afternoon. Everything went well, technically, and I am not in a ton of pain (perhaps I have just become accustomed?)
I am on a 5 LB weight restriction with this arm. Seriously?????? Geez, my jeans weigh 5 lbs!!!
Not really sure how all the pool/stable/yard/cabana boy stuff will work out. Right now, the grass is so high that I can barely see the truck. My local support (the older couple down the road who adopted me) are gone on vacation until next week.
Oh well. Worst part was they gave me a nerve block beforehand. Supposedly to limit the amount of anesthesia and keep the pain away. That did work - but I freaked as they were administering the nerve block, while I was completely awake, and the guy was threading stuff into my neck and detailing the procedure to the intern in training. :ball:
Then we went into the O/R. My entire right side is completely numb. They put the mask on me and I immediately can't breathe, talk, etc. :eek2: I freak again. Then it all goes black.
That was all pretty harrowing. Otherwise, it went well.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. They really helped!! :TU:

Not really sure about your androgynous comment.........
Thanks for the kitten....but I have enough animals here now. 2 dogs, 2 horses and a mule on it's way (yes, an actual long-eared mule). And I'll bet there may be some barn kittens up in the hayloft if I went looking for them. But I won't......
I also have a set of twin fawns running about and a rooster pheasant who believes he owns the place. It's a regular menagerie around here.....but none of these ungrateful animals will mow the lawn!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck with your sugery, I like your car, looks a lot like mine

They were gonna sedate you for the 'block? when I went in a few years ago for the block, 1: I was totaly awake. :( 2: The "doctor" tried to insist that I watch the procedure on TV :Dou: 3: ONLY the general anathesia (sp?) (local injection)numbed my back. That is until that 8 in needle hit my spinal nerve. :ball: Boy I would've jumped through the ceiling if I thought that needle wouldn't break! 3 hours later it all came back. Never again :TU:

Got my splint off today and all the staples pulled (20+). Everything looks great. I was in the Dr's office from 1 until nearly 4.
About a mile from the office, I rear-ended a truck at the immensely busy corner by the mall. Stopped at the light: a car first, then the Dakota, then me. Light turns green – car goes, truck goes, I go – car stops, truck stops, I don’t. :spank: Must have been a blond moment. :spank: There is a perfect trailer hitch hole in the Regal’s bumper. No other damage visible.
Got a ticket for "failure to stop within a safe distance" blah, blah. I'll find out tomorrow how much that will cost me. :dollar: :dollar:
Did I mention that this morning I awoke to find doggie doo on the carpet? I guess that should have told me how the day was going to go!!

I will be at Martin on Saturday to watch. I thought I'd give the arm at least a couple weeks before becoming TOO active. After that, I'm free to do anything that is 5 lbs or less (pushing/pulling/lifting). No problem to shift the automatic. Will definitely be at Pure Stock and some points in between!
