Just purchased a 1972 Skylark......The power windows were working very ery slowly. After a minute or so, all of the windows stopped working. I checked the 40 amp fuse and it's still good.
I would think there must be a relay someplace. Anyone know what the problem is and how do you repair???

Thanks

Relay is not your problem. Are you getting 12 volts or better to the switch? If so, suspect the motors. Another possibility is the rubber in the tracks or the regulator slides. Sometimes the grease dries up on the slides. Silicon spray lube works well on the rubber. You will have to remove a door panel and check.

Would all 4 go out at the same time?? They worked for a couple of trys.

P.S. The top does work.....I think it is on the same fuse.

Thanks

You will need to remove all panels inside and properly lubricate the guides and roller tracks. Also, a good idea to remove the motors and grease them.

Check your fuse box for a pink wire that plugs into the "ign" terminal...this is the turn-on wire for the power windows. It may be loose.

Well, I checked it out....no luck. Changed the fuse ditto. Ran a direct hot wire to the pink wire, still no luck. Any other thoughts???

Thanks

You have a master power wire problem...
orange wire with black tracer.

If you have 12v to the pink wire and to the orange wire, then pw will work.
Try bypassing the car all together and run 12 v to both wires and try to operate the pw.

If that works, then you have a problem with a ground or the orange wire.

George,

This is what I have done so far:

I checked the wires and I noticed that the 3 prong junction box wasn't plugged into anything. I connected the male 3 prong to a female connector just hanging there. The female wires were red blue and brown. Still no luck. ?????

I will give your recommendation a try. I'm sure that will do the trick.

Thanks

The wire you describe sounds like the one that goes to the pass side.

See my article on PW and see if you can find your problem.

George,

Very impressive.

Is the relay in the kick panel available at the local auto parts store?

Thanks

Don't know if the relay is available at parts stores.....but it is a common item found in GM cars.

George,

I just ran a hot wire to the pink wire connector and a hot wire to the red block with the orange wire and ZIPPO. Must be that relay.
Which supplier would care a pw relay? Auto parts store or would a Buick dealer have one on hand??

Thanks
