Anybody have any ideas on how to remove the clock without taking apart the dash panel on a 63 Cat? This thing is driving me nuts. I want to replace it. It's got good connections etc. just quit working. :Do No:

Clock don't work?!! Cry me a river!
Most of us wish that was our only problem!:Brow:
Seriously, if no one can come with a quick answer your best bet
and good idea in the long run would be to try and get a shop manual.
These old cars have a lot of quirky things to take apart. I have found them on ebay once in while. 63s are a little harder to find.
Good luck

Yeah I've got the shop manual, chassis service manual, and body manual. Nothing. It's just one of few problems I've got.

The clock is held in place by a couple of retaining tabs. It is removed from the front without taking the dash apart by rotating the clock one direction or the other. Problem is, I don't remember which way. I took the one out of my 63 Electra, but ended up breaking the retaining tabs. I ended up putting it back in place with some double faced tape to hold it, but those tabs also provide the ground for the clock light. My clock works now, but dash light for the clock doesn't work now.

It turns CCW. It may take the effort of some pliers.

Getting a grip on the clock face ring trim to turn it CCW is the hard part.
Here's the secret: Push a plastic spray can cap over the trim ring and then turn the cap counter clockwise. Try different caps until you get a good grip. They are all slightly different sizes. Keep trying different ones until you get one that grips well.
Knowing that it turns CCW and that it will come out is a big help.
If all else fails, remove the trim rings from around the speedo and the other instruments. These rings are held on by one small hex screw on the underside. With those large rings out of the way you can get a better grip on the clock trim ring.
Good luck
