Is there a person or a place that has VIN info for the 1971 cars, like there is for the 1970 cars?

Post the VIN and I will see what I can find out :TU:
If it's for the 1971 GS455, they shared VIN numbers with the GS350.
It wasn't until model year 1972 that Buick showed the engine in the VIN.
Model year 1970 had separate series for the GS350 and GS455, this changed for model year 1971.

I wasn't sure if there was a way to verify the ooptions on my car. When I had it media blasted during restoration I could see the grease pencil markings on the firewall. They included M20, 455 and the last 6 numbers of the VIN. I took pics of this but it would be nice to have more documentation. It is a bench seat, no air, non-stage car.

Does it have a numbers matching drivetrain? Numbers transmission? That's the only way I was able to verify my 71 GS455 as being a real one.

To my knowledge the 1971 Micorfilm has not surfaced and is not at the Sloan Museum. I have heard stories of somone seeing it at a swap meet in Flint MI about 10 years ago. There is hope that the information exists and maybe someday it will resurface.
If you have a build sheet or Body order production final sheet from the car that would tell you what options came on the car. If you have restored the car I would think you would have found the sheets if they were there. That is the only thing I know about it.

The Previous owner lost what was left of the only build sheet he found. I don't really have any doubts about it being a true BB car. The numbers matching motor was gone, but the correct 4 speed was in the car when I bought it. Hopefully the microfilm will surface some day. Allen

Vin should be stamped in trans. Just having the pencil markings shows it was original 4 speed car. What plant did it come from?

Did you take out gas tank? Rear seet? inside door panels? under dash? MAny other locations for build sheets. Two types were used.

The entire car has been apart with no luck. I am not where I can chack the VIN, if memory serves I think it is a Freemont car.
