Hi All, need a little quick assistance...

The ignition switch has apparantly gone out on my '67. I'm trying to remove it but it won't cooperate. I've stuck the wire in the little hole & turned the key, but the lock cylinder won't budge. I just end up pulling the key out. I've tried turning it, then pulling on the cylinder itself with a pliers, but still no-go.

1) I can't feel that the wire is releasing something, should I be able to feel a little 'give' when it releases?
2) My lock has never been able to turn counter-clockwise past the standard straight-up off position, so I've assumed I should be turning it clockwise towards run/start for the removal process. Is this a correct assumption?
3) Is there a particular point I should have the key or release hole positioned for the lock cylinder to come out?

Since I can pull the key at any position on the lock, is this a likely sign the key and or cylinder have worn enough the release mechanism won't be able to work properly & I'll have to wreck the cylinder to remove it?

Thanks all.

I do believe it does have to turn counter clock wise,( a paper clip works good for me) :TU: it may be that your key is wore enough ,and is not pushing all the pins in, if you can take the whole switch out complete and take it to a locksmith,

I had a heck of a time gettin' mine out as well (but it finally did) it was so long ago now though that I don't remember the finer details? My key also comes out though anywhere you put it ACC., Start, Run it will just pull right out. However once it is off (straight up) the ignition won't turn with out it.

I've replaced mine in my 67 Skylark already. You have to turn it counter-clockwise to accessory, THEN push a paperclip thru the pinhole, and then turn it counter-clockwise again.

There must be something wrong in mine. It will not turn counter-clockwise above the straight-up off position. I'm past the problem anyway; after fighting with the lock for too long, I found it was actually the neutral safety switch..:Dou: Shoulda checked it first.

Thanks for input!
