Steering Noise

My steering wheel is beginning to grind a bit when I turn it. I'm pretty sure it's not from the box or the power steering pump, but it sounds like it's right in the column by the wheel.

I've never taken one apart - is there a bearing in there that can be greased? If so, with what might you grease it? Grease? Silicone? Machine oil? Should I just spray some WD40 in there?

Sometimes it can feel that way if it is low on fluid - check just in case.

So, my ex 51 year old Buick is giving you trouble?:laugh:
Seems like I remember this when it was cold.
Also I think it was coming from up by the firewall.
Have someone (like one of your boys) turn it while you open the hood
and listen you might locate it. Assume the engine isn't running with the boys
behind the wheel and the ebrake is on.:)
I do remember spraying some WD40 on the steering shaft somewhere in
close to the firewall. I think I sprayed some by the nut after taking off the wheel too, but that didn't cure it. So good luck.
