Want to do this this coming winter. Very much a chore? Am guessing that the passengers seat has to come out to get the rear bench out for the replacement of the tray? Any huge hassle in any of those chores? Any secrets/knowledge to be shared would be great. See that they have "trays" listed @ both Year One and Legendary. Either product better than the other? Thanks in advance. Jim

This is on my list of things to do also.
I doubt that the passenger seat has to come out to get the
rear seats out though. Mine is a 72 HT, so you do it first and let me
know!

Jim that is on my list of to do also. I bought one from The Partsplace. It has wings on the ends that tuck up under the sail panels. Not sure but thought I may need to remove them to get a OE install. The sail panels can be difficult to get off without damage as I remember. Thanks Bill.

Shipping charges for a package tray can be ridiculous! You might be charged big bucks for an oversize package. Try to find one locally if you can....swap meets or even a Chevelle supplier, if there's one nearby.

PartsPlace, eh? Hmm... Will have to check them out. Thanks. Will try and start this project soon and see what develops. Thanks for the replies and keep 'em coming as I haven't a clue, but willing to struggle along. Jim

i replaced the package tray in my 72 gs a year ago. i had to remove the rear seat side panels and the rear seat (bottom & back). i did remove the passenger bucket seat to make the removal easier. i did not have to remove the sail panels. use the old tray as the pattern for the new tray. i had to do some trimming and shaping to make the new one fit.

In a 1971 How do you remove the rear back rest?
I have the bench type seat out, That was not a problem.
Do I have to do lossen anything from in the trunk front?
How does the rear back rest come out?

I'm changing out the rear cardboard deck I bought from Year one.
"Looks like i'll be driving w/ o a back seat for a while. LOL

Thanks,
Scott
