"Standard tire was an 8.55-15 triple white wall. Optional size for the GS was an H70-15 which translates to a 235/70-15 in modern sizes" (http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=74567&highlight=riviera):Smarty:

i think 255s are as much tire as you can put on stock rallye rims. :Do No:

would 255/70/15's work on the rear, or will I need a taller tire?

sorry for the nub questions... i have to make an uneducated tire decision and have it rolling by tomorrow so it can be moved. rushed into the tire decision.

What is a good combo for front /back? i would like as i stated wide of tire as possible. thank you again for the knowledge.

me personally, i'd go with 255/60R15s. BF Goodrich radials. front and back.
use THIS LINK (http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp) to compare diameter differences.
if you dont like 'em, you can always sell them to me used! :beer
good luck!

255 65r15 would be the same diameter as 235 70r15. I'd stick with the 235's for the front and use the 255's for the rear. It should fill up the rear wheelwells nicely.
