i took the car on a long trip the other day.
The front wheel bearing berned out and spalled to the spindle.
I had to file the spindle down to get the bearing to go on.
Should this work for a while or should I be searching junk yards for a new spindle before any other trips

Start searching now. I wouldn't use that spindle.

Bearing grease that is too heavy will cause that problem. :Smarty:

I would change the spindle because where the bearing burned and got the spindle hot weakened it at that point making it subject to breakage . The bearing being too tight or too loose probably caused it to gall .

Good preventative maintenance is to remove, inspect and pack wheel bearings everytime you do a brake job. Like Mike stated, once a bearing has in effect welded itself to a spindle, the spindle becomes unusable. The heat weakens the metal.

I had the same thing happen to me a few years back. I was driving home from missouri, my buddy was driving at the time. he woke me up and told me the car started vibrating. got off the road and the spindle was bent like a banana, and the bearing was shot. got towed home from ohio, not cool.

Thanks for the advice,I thought I would have to replace it. At least the fix made it possible to get the car home
Does anyone know what other modles of spindles will work for a 63 buick skylark
