Hey guys!

I need help with the production code on my engine.

S B 435

I've been on the net, but I can't find any sites with info. They all just have stuff for decoding the casting numbers. So... I was hoping I could find some help here. You guys did a great job last time, and I'm looking forward to it again.

BTW - The last three numbers could possibly be 436. I sanded the area a little bit for a better view, and it seems the numbers are stamped on the corner a bit instead of completly on the flat surface. Anyway...

Thanks for the help!

Kevin

Oh, in case you want to know, here's the other numbers I've come up with:

Block casting: 1382201

Intake casting: 1249169-2

Head casting: 1233472

Thanks again!

Kevin,
From the buicks.net site, it looks like the SB makes it a 1970 350 V8 4bbl. If I recall your earlier posts, you stated it is a V8? The reason I ask is, that site also shows SB on the 1970 L6 engine. I can't help you with the 435 part.

Thanks, quick 85.

Are you sure about the 285 hp/375 tor statement? We'd like to sell this engine for some "first car money", so I must be sure on everything I say to the potential buyers :) I would like to advertise the 285 hp, but don't want to be laughed at if I give out false info... know what I mean?

Do you guys think there is anything I should know or look up before we put the engine up for sale?

Thanks!

Oh, BWT -- here's the other post for anyone interested: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=698

Thanks again.

Great! So what do you guys think I can get for an engine like this? Most of the accessories aren't hooked up to it, though. Off the top of my head, I think only the starter and exhaust headers are on it -- everything else is there though... just sitting in the trunk! I figure that will bring the price down a bit :gt: I don't know enough about engines yet to just go out there and slap it all back together yet, either, so I guess I'm stuck. I guess, if there is a good price difference, I could try and find someone to help.

A 285-hp Buick small block will go for a pretty penny, right?

Whaddya think?

Demand isn't real high for a 350 Buick. Even a 455 sitting like your 350 might only bring a couple hundred. There was a 455 for sale around here a couple months ago, for only $150. It all depends on demand...

There's no miles on this engine, though. The block and intake were all put together, but it was never 100% finished (like I said... not all accessories are installed yet). If it still only brings $150 bucks, then I might as well invest some money in an old Camero, Monte Carlo, or Cutlass Supreme, swap the engines, and sell it that way!

Kevin, if you had some receipts or other documentation of what was done to the engine, and when, it would help you get top dollar for it. I don't know what top dollar might be, but a professional rebuild of my 350 by a previous owner 6 yrs ago cost the owner about $2800 at a shop. Do-it-yourselfer's would cost much less. My 350 got a full rebuild including forged 10:1 pistons, balanced, etc... Of course that doesn't mean my engine would sell for $2800  Would also help if it was complete and running.

Kevin-
Where in the world are you?
Let's see if we can get you hooked up with someone in your area that can help you.

I'm from Mattoon, IL but the engine is in Gays, IL.

Yes, it's a real town.

Stoip laughing.

I didn't think anyone was in my area.

Right now there's a 79 Camaro in the paper -- no engine or tranny -- for $300. There's also a 77 Firebird -- no engine or tranny -- for $250/obo. It seems that just the engine alone won't get us much more than $250 tops, so I think I'd like to try and drop the engine into one of those cars. Around here, there are plenty of teens thinking a 350 in an F-body is hot crap, and they'll pay pretty nice so thay can go squeel their tires on the cruising road Friday and Saturday nights.
