Gangster Whitewalls

I've got a 1977 Riviera that I saved from the crusher (needed an engine) which is all stock (and no rust). It's Blue Firemist with a white top and interior. The car spent most of it's life in Florida except for the summers up in the Hudson River Valley. It has the factory wire wheel hubcaps. Due to the color combination I think I want to pimp it a bit and find a set of 215 or 225 - 15" wide whitewall radial tires. I checked Coker and Vintage but wow...$190.00 a tire. :eek2: No wonder you need a stable and a trunk full of blow to drive a car with wide whites. Anyone know a less expensive route?

Not sure of a source, but you might want to consider blackwalls with those wide 'port-a-walls' - they were wide white rubber inserts,
that fit under the rim when you seated the tire under the 'red painted' bead of the rim ! Maybe J.C.Whitney ?
They sure gave the illusion of www tires suitable for a pimp mobile ? :Do No:

He he he... I know all too well. I know they worked great on Bias Ply but wondering about laying flat or scrubbing when the radial side wall flexes?
I checked J.C.W. but didn't find them. eBay has a few auctions for 13" & 14" but no 15". Now if I only knew a tire wholesaler :Brow:

Find thinwall whites and grind them out to wides. They won't be quite as wide as the high rollers, but about 3 times the side of regulars.

If you can settle for a 1.5 to 1.3 inch size whitewall try the Broadway Classic or Dimension IV. Reasonable priced for a wide white wall tire. You should be able to get a set of four for under four hundred dollars at any Multi-Mile tire dealer or various sites on the web. I have a set of the Broadway Classics and they are okay tires

Kelly makes a set last time I checked. I think Firestone might.......that is what I had. :bglasses: :grin:

If you can find a set of Firestone 721s, they have a 1.75 whitewall. Also reasonably priced

Broadway Classics aren't around anymore. Neither are the Dimension IV wide white tires. I found this out last year when I was looking for tires for my 65' Riv.

I believe Coker or Universal Vintage Tire bought the mold for the Broadway Classics. Each place is currently selling them as American Classics through their respective stores. I have been looking at the 235/75/15 which prices at $112.00 a tire.

Some of those tires are sweet!!!! I'm torn between wide whites w/ painted wheels and small caps for the 71 Riv. OR 18's w/ those nice gold lines (which would match the accent color-on-the-car-). Pricey though....
