Anybody here swapped carbs on there 264ci Nailhead? Got one in my '55 Special and heard that it makes a world of difference, not to mention that my 2 barrel is giving me some trouble at the moment.
I've got a 4 barrel intake off of a 322ci laying around that I can use. Anybody using the Edelbrock 500cfm carb? More cfm? What are you all running?

Not mine but a good friend swapped from a 2v to an edelbrock 500 cfm on his '56 special. Says he loves it and can tell the difference. He used an adapter plate from Transdapt. Had to modify it due to a machining error from the factory (was a good excuse for him to buy a drill press). Anyone else run into this?

The 500cfm should do fine. The motor will only draw as much air through the Edelbrock (AFB) as needed due to the weighted secondary valve. I wold think it should help a fair amount.
The intake should bolt up to the engine fine but you may need an adapter as MSC66 stated to go from the small base four barrel to the larger base four barrel. Even the inner bolt pattern on the Edelbrock is bigger than the stock pattern on the 322 intake. I have used the trans-dapt adapters as well in the past and never had to machine one of the older ones. Sounds like quality is of a little these days, seems like that is happening everywhere.
You will need to do something about the starter switch if you have not already. It is on the intake manifold and activated by an arm on the 2bbl carb now. When I put the 401" in my car, I just rewired the switch and installed a push button under the dash.Simple circuit, wire from ign. switch to the starter 'S' terminal, using the push button switch inbetween. I am pretty sure the factory wires were pink and yellow.
Next, if you have a Dynaflo auto, you will need to do some work to get the trans linkage to work on the Edelbrock carb.
Although all of this will take a little work, I think you will be pleased with the outcome.

I put a 500 cfm E-brock on my 55 Century. Made a world of difference in how the car ran.
Just do what Joe said about the starter button, and you will be very happy with how that car will perform.
In fact you will probably kick your self mentally for not doing it sooner

I had the same problem with my adapter from Trans Dapt. Mine was one that went from the stock WCFB to an AFB. I saw 3 of them and they all had the same problem, no holes for the manifold and the counterbores were too small. My local parts store where I bought the adapter has a machine shop and they fixed for me. I emailed the problem to TD with no responce. BTW the my car is a stick so no trans linkage was involved. The car runs great and I used a new starter switch with a keyed start.
