I saw that one. Is it a typo(427), or did someone really swap out the nailhead?

Could one of you guys with a '62 - '63 Wildcat with a floor shift automatic do me a huge favor? I have a '62 Electra Convertible that I am putting a center console and floor shifter from a '62 Wildcat. I'm having some trouble getting the shifter linkage set up. I suspect that the arm on the tailshaft of the transmission, that the shifter linkage attaches to, is shorter on a floor shift car vs a column shift car. There is not a 1:1 ratio between my shifter and the tail shaft lever and I can't get the full range of gears. I've been working on changing the pivot point on the shaft lever to get a greater range of motion. It's a little tricky with clearance issues and geometry. It doesn't appear the arms are interchangeable and the entire tailshaft would have to be swapped. The arm on my tailshaft is approximately 5 1/2 inches long. Could someone with a floor shift car measure theirs, it would be a great help.

I haven't had a chance to check my linkage to get answer for you, we've had a lot of problems keeping our tow trucks on the road. I'll check it out asap.

I was thinking.... would you call the 62-64s the 1st generation of wildcats?

I was thinking.... would you call the 62-64s the 1st generation of Wildcats?

I would, for sure. There was a body change in 65, but the chassis and drive train pretty much didn't change. In 67, the Nailheads were replaced with 430s, and the 455 in 1970.

Glad to help, Gary. If you're running Windows XP, go to the Microsoft website and search for picture resizing. They have one that's basic, but works very well. It's a free download.:TU:

I was given a 64 2dr with the 425 and auto this last fall.

Needs a carb and driveline. His son took the dl into the shop years ago because it was viberating and kid never went back and picked it up.

Oh well, it was free. Pics this spring when I start tearing up the streets with it.

always have a bit of trouble researching previous auction results at barrett-jackson

the last scottsdale auction had a 64 cat go for 33k. Was this yours jacks455gsx? Is this the highest a 64 has sold for? anyone?

I'm just wondering because I picked up both of my cats thinking that the values would increase in time, mainly because of their rarity. Neither of mine are currently in great condition, though not bad. The nailheads alone are worth saving I think.

I'd like to keep my 63 mostly stock and I'm thinking of customizing my 64, since the body needs some re-repairs, because along the way someone used bondo over some rust. Maybe I'll post another thread about that

Just for the sake of conversation, is the 62 really considered the first Wildcat or is the 63?

For example, the Malibu name was introduced in 64, but never it's own model all the way til 78, when the Chevelle model was dropped.

I like the Invicta name anyway.

64 4d hardtop for me. Haven't yet started anything major on it...just picking up some replacement parts here and there...such as emblems, taillight lenses, etc. Not sure what I want to do with the paint and interior.

That's a sweet ride Josh but I can't imagine trying to keep white interior clean.

I would presume that the '63 was the first year of the Wildcat line. '62 it was considered a sub model of the Invicta line.

:kodak: I owned a 1962 Buick Wildcat from 1968 to 1970. It was Black with White vinyl roof that I dyed black because I could not keep it clean. It had white vinyl interior, buckets, console, tach, etc. The only reason I got rid of it was that my wife took the pasenger side out and the body shop wanted more than I paid for the car to fix it. I WISH I HAD IT BACK TODAY!!!! If anyone has one for sale, let me know. And if you don't want to sell yours, please post some pictures of it so I can reminisce..

Well, I just read this post and I have defintely been enlightened. We have one of these Wildcats on our yard. It's a four door. There is no data plate, someone removed it before we got it I guess. ...not even sure if we still have the car or if it was crushed (...think we still have it or at least some parts from it), but I do remember wondering what year it was and how it must have looked ...once a upon a time. It's nice to see from the pics you guys posted what it REALLY looked like in it's day. Great Job.
Thanks

'63 Wildcat 2 door joined the group today. Complete original Montana car bought last week and shipped to my home in Houston. No rust except a few bubbles at corners of left door, straight body with very good paint, excellent chrome and stainless. Sun damaged seats, good dash, steering wheel, and glass. Needs trunk liner and engine compartment cleanup/paint. Dynaflow, drives excellent. Help locating upholstery kit and trunk liner would be appreciated. Are these wheels original for a '63?

Thanks!
