biggest tire for 14" wheel

I can't afford to get 15x8 rally wheels yet, and I have to get tires soon. I have 225/70's on now. Do I have any other options?

Also, what brands are best? Goodrich? Road Hugger? Not a lot of options.

Any help is appreciated.

I managed to squeeze 245/60 tires onto my 14x6 rims, but you'll wear out the center tread real quick. 225/70 is probably your best bet.

225/70 is the recommended maximum size on 6" rims. anything larger will wear the tire centre tread, but worse that that, it will weaken the bead ring at the rim edge and make the tire prone to failure.

I don't think I would buy new 14 inch tires if you are thinking about getting 15 inch wheels. JJ coded 15x7 Buick ralleys are plentiful and not too expensive, just watch eBay or the for sale section here on the board.

Another option is to have Curt (aka McWheels) make your 14 inch wheels into 15 x 7 or 15 x 8 wheels by installing new 15 inch hoops on your centers as they are the same as 15 inch centers. I think he charges $110 per wheel. Just do an advanced search for username "mcwheels".

As for tires, I'm partial to BF Goodrich Radial TA's

I'll just throw in my tire preference... i like the Firestone Indy 500 Firehawk. Real nice ride, traction and tread. I think they grab the road better than the radial TA. I have them on my Charger and love them. Swapping out the radials on my Buick with them also. Price is pretty much the same.

OK, we are ordering 15x8's for the rear and going to add 295/50-15's. It's a start.
