How Do I Take Apart Door Handles

I want to rechrome my door handles and am trying to figure ut the deal with removing the buttons. Looks like the factory STAKED the flat washer in . Do I grind that off and try to duplicate it after chroming ?

on my big cars you push the flat piece in and turn it a quarter turn the it all comes right out.
