Thanks for a great forum
Have a 1955 Buick 2 Door Hard Top just coming out of local college shop and looking for suggestions on purchasing all new weather striping and Chrome pieces. Have all pieces to rechrome or trade cores for new?
Live in Portland ORegon area so local or remote - suggestions...

This must be the 55 Buick chrome season
I have been in the process of re-plating or replacing all the chrome on my 55 this winter too. I have been using a local chrome shop for the small parts, but I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. :blast: I had them do the trunk emblem, door handles and headlight rings. The door handles are not reproduced contrary to what people might tell you. There is a very reputable Oldsmobile shop (Fusicks) that is within a 15 minute ride from me and has listed repro door handles on eBay - a few months back. I went down there with my Buick cores and confirmed that their repros are Olds specific. I think they have since stopped listing them as Buick applicable since my visit.
The quarter script emblems are reproduced. I bought a pair from a guy on eBay that goes by the ID genebp. The quality was fantastic (for a repro) and they popped in no problem. They look great.
I bought a repro antenna from antenna_x on eBay as well, and again the quality was very good. I was a bit leary about whether I was going to receive some china piece of **** or not, and although it did have the made in china sticker on it (no lie) it looks great.
As far as my big chrome items like bumpers, bullets, grill bar etc., I've ordered all that stuff from Bumper Boyz out of Los Angeles. I've bought bumpers from them before for my 65 and had very good luck. The advantage I have though, is that I go to Spring Carlilse in Carlisle, PA every year and that's one of the shows that Bumper Boyz also goes to. The show is next weekend and they are bringing all my stuff with them to the show. That way, I can inspect everything before I lay any cash down. Well, I did have to give a deposit, but that's refundable if I don't like the stuff or if there are any problems. They travel all over the country though, so I'm sure they land somewhere near you during the course of the summer.
As far as stainless trim, mine was in great shape so I didn't have to get involved in that. There is always tons of trim on eBay though and I know there are places out there that work, polish and repair stainless. You might have to ask around on that if needed.
Hope this helps a bit. If you have any other questions just ask.

I am in the process of replacing most of all my weatherstripping on a 1955 Buick Special too. I ordered my stuff from Bob's Automobilia. They are great guys and very helpfull. I have not yet started installing all these items, but the guys at Bob's said if I had any problems they would help.
I have ordered stuff from CAR'S but they are not as nice as Bob's; fyi
hope this helps

The guys at Cars are a bunch of jerks. If they learned what customer service was they would probably have 10 times more business. It's like they're doing you a favor if you buy from them. Not a very friendly bunch. :Do No:

I bought some rubbers for my ' 54 from RubberTheRightWay. They were Steele Rubber reproductions but cheaper than they could supply. :Do No:
They all fitted very good, although shipping was a little slow.
I would have bought them from Bob's except some rubbers for my Roadmaster were not available from them.
I don't know if Bob's products are Steele or not. Most restorers here use Steele products and don't seem to have a problem.
Your choice.

I agree with the guy about Cars. Bought from them before Bob's is a whole lot friendler.

I looked at the parts (rubber) I ordered from Bob's and these are Steele parts. I will post and let everyone know how they work out when I get
them installed. I have lots of wet sanding and buffing to do first.
Hope this helps:laugh:
