wiring for th400 kick down solonoid

Hi Guys: I am hooking up the wiring for the kick down and have a factory harness I am using. It
has the two prong connector for the tranny switch
but it also has a two prong connector with a
resister going between the two prongs. this
connector is red in colour and it shows up in the schematic. does this have something to do with a/c
because my car doesn't have a/c. seems to me there is a vacuum switch or something it might hook to.
also can I bypass this plug.

John,
I'm not really clear on what you are talking about. Which end of the kickdown harness are we talking about? The gas pedal end or the transmission end? If it is the transmission end, the trans connection will have 2 prongs. The vertical prong will be your kickdown, the horizontal prong is for a pressure switch on the valvebody. The pressure switch is part of the transmission controlled spark advance system( emission control). It works with a thermovacuum switch on the intake manifold. It allows no vacuum advance in 1st and 2nd gear, then when the trans upshifts to 3rd, it allows normal advance. You do not need this unless you are building a concourse restoration. Tape off the wires and use the vertical prong for your kickdown. Hope that answers your question. If not provide me with more detail, and I'll try and help.:TU:

Hi Larry: I have the connection that goes dowm to
the switch at the trany, but I also have a red
flat two pronge connect engine harness side with
a blue resistor between the prongs. I think it
may have something to do with vacuum load.I seem
to remember a valve attached the the front right
side of the carb. the motor had air conditioning
the red or pink wire going to the kick down
splits,goes to this connector and then goes down to kick down. does this make any more sense

Yes John, It's what I thought. That is the connection for the Transmission controlled spark advance. I assume you no longer have the solenoid. You don't need it. Just run a hose from the carb to the advance cannister. You can eliminate or tape the wiring out of the way. You only need one wire to the trans for the kickdown. On 70's transmissions the second prong was for the pressure switch on the valvebody, on switch pitch trannys the second prong was for the torque converter stator solenoid.
