I just got a new set of tires. M/T 275-60-15 drag radials. These tire will be going on my 1972 Skylark, I was wondering about a few things. I checked the M/T web page and they don't say anything about these questions.
1. What is the best psi to run while racing? Car with driver is 3862 lbs.
2. What kind of heat cycles should you put on the tires before racing
on them?
3. What are your recomandations for burn outs?
It should be interesting to see what the new tires cn do for me. My best with the old tires (5 year old BFG drag radials ) was an 11.93 at 114 mph. Will find out at Norwalk in 2 weeks.

My son runs 18psi, average burnout!
Big burnouts are not needed, to much and the tires get a little greasy.
His best pass was 11.37 with 1.59 60ft (3873 lbs)

I put mine to 16 lbs. cold at the track. Then they'll heat up some after a burnout.
295/65 M/T's. 17 psi, 1.57 60', smokey burnout first time out, then just hazed them to get 'em clean before each pass. 3,885 lbs. w/ driver.

Dave,
How do those tires fit? What gears do you have and what's your trap speed? Thanks!
Bob,
I have a Ford 9" disc brake rearend with Summers Bros. axles with the Buick bolt pattern. Running 4.33 gears. Trap speed is 124.55 mph with 91 octane pump gas and full exhaust. I wish I'd put 4.10 gears in it now. Going through the lights at 6,300 rpm with the stock Buick torque converter, it really needs a good 9" converter to run any good numbers.

Dave, I may have asked you this before but is your 9" the same width as the original axle? Also, what backspace and width rim are you using and did you need to roll the inner lip of the wheelhouse for clearance?
I am thinking about swapping 4.10's into my car and the 9" 3500 converter is on it way.
BTW.... 10.96 is pretty good numbers.
