My motor oil is very dirty and i wold like to clean the engine.
Is there anyone that has experions with adding a half quad ATF

Hi Simon, welcome!
This is an old mechanic's trick and I used to do it long ago with no bad results. The detergent in the ATF supposedly helps to remove engine oil varnish & deposits just before an oil change.
I don't recommend this for a high-mileage engine that may have a large amounts of oil deposits. The danger is that the detergent may break loose large pieces of debris which could cause a flow restriction at the oil pump pickup in the oil pan...much like a loose blood clot can cause a stroke.

The factory reccomends a good light motor oil for that. Back in the day, we used to sub one qt of atf when we changed oil and filter. Wont hurt any thing. What ever you do ,dont put more than that , or put anything like kerosene or diesel in it. many years ago I destroyed an engine that way.

I think GUNK makes an engine cleaning product for that purpose and use.

I had and old mechanic years ago when I went into a garage with my 66 Grand Prix, the lifters were clicking and he put a pint of ATF in the oil and the lifter quit almost immediately. it has cleaning agent to keep trannys clean and dont hurt anything. And it worked on my Wildcat also and its cheaper than Rislone or any additives you add to the oil.
Im a believer:beer
