It is my understanding that he did not recieve the full order, but only part of the order. Maybe only the first 25, or even less than that? If I remember correctly though, he was still waiting on a few sets of them to be sent to him from the factory...

A few of us have gotten ours....... I got my lenses about two weeks ago. I think between being real busy, and waiting for the manufacturer to get all the lenses to Al, that is why there is a delay. I think I remember him talking a second batch too, but don't know how many guys are in that group. I know mine are still sitting in the boxes...... they are a "just in case" purchase.

Out of the people that have recieved there's, who is satisfied with the quality? We were lead to believe that they were going to be perfect. Of the first two that I recieved, 1 was acceptable. I recieved 2 others that I assume I was suppose to chose 1 of them and those are even worse - had chips in them, imperfections in the red part. I am not satisfied especially for the price I am paying. Alan was suppose to check these before sending. I am not a happy camper at this point.

Wow Carl,
That's the first negative report I've heard of these new lenses.
I'm still waiting for mine.
I'm hoping for excellent pieces, thats how they were described in all the posts by Al. I mean we are paying top dollar for these and I expect Excellent pieces.:Smarty:

RED GS,

I hope the best for you! I guess if we do accept something that aren't the best, then we in the end are screwing ourselves and the quality will never get better. I am not trying to bash Alan. After a couple times of trying to get a good one I am getting a little bitter. Someone is not checking at least the ones I am getting or they felt that someone will take them because they are new and shiny. I will try one more time and if the next one is not good I am asking for a refund and will not order the ones I was planning on getting for my 71 GS!

Carl,

Can you post a pic of the lens? I'm curious.

Thanks, Matt

Carl, have you addressed your concerns directly to Alan? I can't really tell from the info that you've posted. Did you order 1 set or 2? Have you talked to Alan?

I have addressed my concerns to Alan when I got my first set of repo lens. I told him I was not happy with the quality and didn't want to accept one of them. The other one I could live with. He told me no problem, he wanted to make sure than they were good. I told him that I wanted him to check the replacement lense before it was shipped to me. What I got back after 2 weeks more time was a set of lenses that has worse quality than before. There are many chips or small dents in the 'outer outside perimeter' (silver part) of the lense. I can't see how these noticeable imperfections would be acceptable to anyone unless they don't care what they look like. I tried calling Alan after I got them the second time on Sat. Couldn't reach him! So I will try to call him Monday and see how to resolve this. I am not going to put up pics at this time. Somehow it doesn't seem right!

Big Red, Glen at Cars Inc. in NJ has had 70 lens for over a year already now at under $90 each and are very good quality from what I have been told. Glen sells good stuff and is a big supporter of all the Northeast GS/GN events.

John, are the Cars lenses similar to what The Parts Place is selling? They have 70 repro lenses also, but they have none of the original GM markings on them, just plain lenses, since they are not a GM authorized reproduction. If that is the case, that information should also be pointed out to these guys. I think their prices are similar to what you state the Cars pieces are.

Posting to follow this thread. I live about 30 minutes from CARS and my stop by just to check out the quality.

FYI,
Just in case your wondering about those lenses, I bought a set of 70 lenses from The Parts Place at a Buick show in the Chicagoland area recently. I can't vouch for Cars lenses, but I think these look great. Someone at that same show was selling an NOS pair of lenses for $350 and I bought these for $170.
I personally think these look better, especially since they are a hell of alot cheaper. They might look "too polished" for concourse, but I really don't care since I plan on driving my car. They do have SAE markings molded into the plastic (I don't know if they are correct).

Well, I recieved my tailight lenses today. When I inspected them, I saw some surface imperfections in the red lense. Sort of like fine scratches. On one lense, there is a circular mark, it looks like a scratch, but it isn't. To see it, you must hold it up to the light, and it won't show with a digital picture, at least not at the resolution that I can post. Is this enough to make me reject them or ask for a refund? No, overall, a very nice reproduction. I can see how some guys might object, but for me, they are fine. Just my .02. Heres a shot of them.

Larry,
I also received my lenses today and I confer with what you said, If I hold them up to a 75 watt light bulb you can see a little bit of overzelous amount of sealant or glue, although once installed in a bumper you would be hard pressed to see it, overall I am very pleased with Mine:Smarty:
Also on my lenses I can't find any scratches or chips or anything that would make me dissatisfied, all I know is I got mine and I like em:TU: :TU:

I have a set of nos 72 lenses and they have the same type of minor imperfections,

My question is this

What standard are repro parts held to?

Same as nos (this would seem most logical).

Better than nos.

or,
Absoulte perfection in every way even under magnification.

Of course I havn't compared the repro lenses to nos.

Just got back from the Autofair in Charlotte today and my lenses were waiting on me. As some of you have stated, I was very disappointed with the quality. The lenses I received have bubbles in the red part of the lense and glue smeared on the lenses. I will contacting Alan as soon as I can. I even went to the garage and compared them to the ones in my GSX and Gold GS455. The ones on the cars are in nicer condition. I was one of the last people to order because I didn't want to see the project fail because of not meeting the minimum order. Now I'm not sure I made a good decision.

Brother I was there too. The rain about got the best of me yesterday morning but the afternoon was nice.

Did you notice the Blue Olds W32 convt on the front straight away outside wall? That was two of us from the Board.

Jim,

I must have missed the W32 Olds. Dang it! I usually look at all the muscle cars very close. There were two cars there that I really liked. 1963 Pontiac Catalina 2 dr post with a 455 in it. Silver with a light blue interior, $16,500. Georgoes car! Also a 69 Dodge Dart GT, yellow with a black vinyl top. Original unrestored car for sale at $12,500. There also was a 70 Stage 1 4 speed outside for sale for $30,000.

My brother and I happened to be close to our swap space when the heavy rain started, so we made a beeline to my truck. After awhile, went to the motel and returned about 2 o'clock after it cleared up.

Nice trip although I didn't buy anything.

I talked to Alan today concerning the quality issues on the lenses that I received last week. Lenses are now on their way back to Alan to be replaced. He stated that he had 10-12 lenses and will try to correct the problem.

Larry the interior really looked out of place on that car. The original exterior must have been blue or white. With the silver exterior the interior needed to be changed to black or silver. There was also a 63 navy blue Cat 421 that was supposed to go through the auction. Nice original car. I saw it in Nov. at Daytona.

Then GM will be giving them a call because I am the only LICENSED man of tail light lenses.
