My friend gave me a set 14x6 5 lug 4 3/4 pattern wheels and spinners that look and feel for all the world like magnesium. They are an aftermarket type, only marked SRC 1400 and D65 on the inner rim. The spinners are marked SR100 and 65-1. They look to be early '70's vintage, and are in great shape. I did a Google search to no avail. Is there a test I can do with household chemicals to see if they are mag or aluminum? I thought about doing a density with water, but alloys won't match pure aluminum or mag numbers. They are VERY light. I don't want to cut pieces off to see if it burns.... Thanks, Dan

Just a thought but aluminum stays pretty shiney and magnesium gets butt ugly tarnished. Kind of green-grey if I remember. Lots of work to keep nice.

Post a few pictures. Someone might be able to ID them.

What he said...I'm "up" on a lot of vintage wheels and may be able to help from a picture

I'll post a few pics tonight. A friend of mine used to be in scrap metal, and thought that vinegar will make magnesium smoke....Dan

Well, I decided to fish vs. cut bait, and weighed one of them....They are fairly thick and each 14" wheel weighed 12 lbs. Definitely NOT magnesium. They kind of look like draglites, and have alloy spinners. Kind of disappointed, but hey, they were a gift ....Thanks for your input. Dan
