To begin I have a 66 special. Saying that I know for you veterans, this might be an easy question, but I am totally new to this restoration thing. I have two questions: How do you take the dash off so I can repaint it, and how do you take the window cranks off to take the door panels off?? Let me know if you guys can answer these questions - I have no idea :Do No:
Thanks for all yall's help
Neil
Neil,
I can't answer the dash question but HERE (http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14040&highlight=Window+Crank)
is a thread where we discussed all the various tricks people have come up with to remove the window cranks. :)

Neil-
Get as much printed info on the car as you can. Chilton's manual from '64 to '71 would be a good investment. I have an assembly manual for my '70. The most priceless pair of books I own are the 2 volumes of the 1970 Buick Chassis manual- they have saved me hours of frustration, thousands of dollars in broken parts, because I didn't know how to remove them, and lots of trips to the parts store for parts I didn't need.

Are you talking about just removing the padding from the dash, or pulling the entire dash out?
Pulling the entire dash out just to paint it seems a little excessive. I painted mine while I had the windshield out to repair the rust. The windshield comes out really easy, and then it is a matter of removing trim and masking it off. I sprayed my dash with a Pre-Val unit and laquer cut 2:1 with thinner. Looks OEM.

The dash, ie: the metal section that the pad, instrument cluster, etc. goes into, does not come out. It's welded into the body shell, and has to be painted in the car.
