View Full Version : "Does God still speak to people?"

A young man had been to Wednesday night Bible study.
The pastor had shared about listening to God and obeying the
Lord's voice.

The young man couldn't help but wonder,
"Does God still speak to people?"

After service, he went out with some friends for coffee and pie
and they discussed the message. Several different ones talked
about how God had led them in different ways.

It was about ten o'clock when the young man started driving
home. Sitting in his car, he just began to pray,
"God, if you still speak to people, speak to me. I will listen.
I will do my best to obey."

As he drove down the main street of his town, he had the
strangest thought to stop and buy a gallon of milk. He shook
his head and said out loud,

"God is that you?" He didn't get a reply and started on toward
home. But again, the thought, "buy a gallon of milk."

The young man thought about Samuel and how he didn't recognize
the voice of God, and how little Samuel ran to Eli.
"Okay, God, in case that is you, I will buy the milk."

It didn't seem like too hard a test of obedience. He could
always use the milk.

He stopped and purchased the gallon of milk and started off
toward home. As he passed Seventh Street, he again felt the
urge, "Turn down that street."

"This is crazy," he thought and drove on past the intersection.
Again, he felt that he should turn down Seventh Street. At the
next intersection, he turned back and headed down Seventh.
Half jokingly, he said out loud, "Okay, God I will."

He drove several blocks when suddenly, he felt like he should
stop. He pulled over to the curb and looked around. He was in
a semi-commercial area of town. It wasn't the best, but it
wasn't the worst of neighborhoods either.

The businesses were closed and most of the houses looked dark
like the people were already in bed. Again, he sensed
something, "Go and give the milk to the people in the house
across the street." The young man looked at the house. It was
dark and it looked like the people were either gone or they were
already asleep.

He started to open the door and then sat back in the car seat.
"Lord, this is insane. Those people are asleep and if I wake
them up, they are going to be mad and I will look stupid."
Again, he felt like he should go and give them the milk.

Finally, he opened the door. "Okay God, if this is you, I will
go to the door and I will give them the milk. If you want me to
look like a crazy person, okay. I want to be obedient. I guess
that will count for something, but if they don't answer right
away, I am out of here."

He walked across the street and rang the bell. He could hear
some noise inside. A man's voice yelled out, "Who is it?
What do you want?"

Then the door opened before the young man could get away.
The man was standing there in his jeans and a t-shirt.
He looked like he just got out of bed. He had a strange look on
his face, and he didn't seem too happy to have a stranger
standing on his doorstep.

"What is it?" The young man thrust out the gallon of milk.
"Here I brought this to you."

The man took the milk and rushed down the hallway, speaking
loudly in Spanish. Then from down the hall came a woman
carrying the milk toward the kitchen. The man was following her
holding a baby.

The baby was crying. The man had tears streaming down his face.
The man began speaking and half-crying, "We were just praying.
We had some big bills this month and we ran out of money.
We didn't have any milk for our baby. I was just praying and
asking God to show me how to get some milk."

His wife in the kitchen yelled out, "I asked him to send an
Angel with some milk. Are you an Angel?"

The young man reached into his wallet and pulled out all the
money he had on him and put it in the man's hand. He turned and
walked back toward his car and the tears were streaming down his
face.

He knew that God still answers prayers.

You know Ken you have a way of proving that man has taken it upon himself thinking we (as man) are better than God. You know I think about several things here that come to mind, one is we all have free choice. That means you have the choice to be a guy who mocks God. I hope you find it fullfilling. You can be assured that everything that happens will be all for Gods glory. In other words everything happens (bad or good) to glorify God.

So if one person is murdered maybe 4 more others decided to change from their ways and become better citizens or even start to follow Gods teachings. WOW what a concept someone becoming
KIND
Assuring
Supportive
Loving

Instead of being a jerk, mouthy, know it all, condisending, obnoxious, hatefull, intolerant, demeaning and corrupting of what it does say in Gods word.

Dont take this wrong but I just dont want you standing near me in a thunder storm..........

""Dont take this wrong but I just dont want you standing near me in a thunder storm"

why not? are you worried that god would miss with his thunderbolt and take you out by accident? that would be impossible, god is perfect he can't miss. are you worried about god's accuracy, or that my obnoxious ways are infectious?

"You can be assured that everything that happens will be all for Gods glory. In other words everything happens (bad or good) to glorify God. "

I guess then my mocking ways also glorify god. who am i to deny god his glory.

still waiting for my sushi.

If Ken hates God so much, why does he keep logging into this forum?

He is secretly tring to become a christian. You know like in the younger days we hated girls but what it really was is that we wanted to be accepted by them so we tormented them. :spank:

One mans fool is another mans messiah.
I really want to blindly believe, it is far to difficult to be responsible and in control of your own life. Who in thier right mind would dare question anything. thinking is dangerous !!!!!! who needs proof of a mythical deity. I don't understand the why's or how's of the universe, it must be god. I am too niffty special to be created "accidently". my mommy was not a monkey!!!!!!!! :ball: ( get out the sarcasm detector Randy!!)

The milk story was silly, admit it.
I ignore most of the "more serious stuff". but, science threads in the bench forum have been polluted with creationist nonsense, this forum is an open one.

maybee i am god, testing your faith, maybee i am the devil doing the same. Or i could be bored and having a good laugh. I have had lots of fun with some of the other threads.

"You can be assured that everything that happens will be all for Gods glory. In other words everything happens (bad or good) to glorify God. "

I guess then my mocking ways also glorify god. who am i to deny god his glory.
hard to get yer mind around that ain't it? I am part of gods glory.
If my questioning has helped you to add strength to your faith, that is a good thing, i am doing the lords work. If your eyes are opening to see reality, that is also good.
i should start my own religion, I hear they get a hell of a tax break

my sushi still hasn't shown up.

The "help from above" section of this board was set up so that those of us who do beleive in GOD will have a section to post and have a christian friendly area to come to. You have never been anything but a scab in this area. I for one have been polite with you and your sourcasum and I have seen alot of the posts here that also have been polite but its time to lay the cards on the table.

REMEMBER This section of the board was set up so that those of us who do beleive in GOD will have a section to post and have a christian friendly area to come to. Plain and simple You are not so go away...

As far as your choice to not beleive in God You say that in every post, we know now, so GO AWAY...........

You say you have an open mind but continue to talk with a closed mind. I will speak for some others who have contacted me (since I am one of the moderators on this board) about your rudeness in this particular section of the board, so I will say you are not contributing anything constructive at anytime in this area so I think its time to not come to this secction to post anymore.

Its time to move on, find someone else to talk down to, and remember this section is for posts for "Help from above" That means comments pretaining to GOD Jesus Christ Not for posts from mr idontbeleiveingodsoletmebeanuisance

Have a good day

Ken,

I must admit I don't know you. But it seems, to me at least, that you have targeted certain things on this board. Mainly these type of threads. I really could care less about your personal beliefs and such. But I kinda take offense to the fact that your sole purpose here is to attack other peoples. I have watched some of your "debates" in other threads like this and I will say you are well schooled in your ideas and convictions. Good for you, I applaud you for that. I just don't understand how you can take so much pleasure in running everyone else down for their ideas and convictions ??? And doing everything you can to change everyones mind. I can't remember ever seeing anyone, with the dedication you have shown in stating you case, trying to "convert" you. If there has been then I stand corrected.

Personally I had the same beliefs as you at one time. Then something happened that changed my mind. I could tell you the story, but I really think it would serve no purpose. Other than to give you something else to use as a weapon. So why bother ? We all have the choice to believe what we want, when we want, and how we want. You have made your choice, just like I have. Although they are different, that makes neither of us less of a person.

I use this thread here primarily as a pick me up when I feel bad. Alot of the posts here are short sayings that are intended for that. Sure you have the normal talkings and such. Thats just one of the uses to me. I don't think its fair on your part to come here and look for something to start and arguement over. It's not fair to the users of the thread, I feel.

Can I ask you, and this is an honest question, why your here on this thread, if not to start an arguement ? You have 87(?) posts on this board, and 25%(approx.) of them are in the "Help from above" threads. You have made your beliefs WELL known to most everyone here, so why come back ? Is it so difficult to accept the fact that not everyone is going to, or wants to, think the way you ? I just don't understand.

Dave.

Ephesians 3

7 I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power.

8 Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

9 and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.

Quite a nice story. While I can't quote from the bible and I haven't seen the inside of a church in (God) knows how long..lol, I do have a special place inside where I know God lives. Some amazing things I have seen and have had happen over the years show me that we are more than biological accidents. God in general, to me, may not be describable as Jewish, Christian or Budda or whatever your name for it is. God may be beyond description all together but, as stupid humans, we do need to put names to things so we can try to understand them. I do get Ken though, It's easy to play devils advocate when it comes to talking God, and even a bit fun to piss off the bible thumpers once in a while. (no offense thumpers) I'm sure I could rant for an hour why there is no God but, I know that most of what I'd say would have to come from that sarcastic part in all of us, which is usually full of crap anyway. Why there is God can take much less time..........Faith.

Do ya have some? or don't ya?
Maybe I have enough Faith that God won't mind if I don't show up for church.
Maybe Ken has so much Faith that he can test it with his sarcasym...and still no lightning bolts..after all, what we say and how we feel are usually much different.

but Ken, don't push it too far. That Sushi just may come and when it does, God may have a little sarcasym for you...in the form of 40 days and 40 nights on the toilet..

Nick - Not sure what part of LA you're in, but if you ever find yourself not doing anything on Sunday morning - stop in to 1st Baptist Church of Hollywood. My sister lives not too far from there...I had the chance to stop in there - real nice church.

The preacher was a younger guy - real down to earth!:TU: I was glad I went.:)

Let all pray that Ken has a " On the road to Damascus" experiance. Not to be stuck blind . I would not want anything bad to happen to him. I pray that he would become so miserable in his sin, that he could do nothing but cry out to GOD and make Christ Lord of his life. GOD is still in the business of changing lives.
