With the help of a friend I'm doing a 12v conversion on my 1950 Buick Special. He has a bunch of voltage reducers left over from doing the conversion on a 53 Chevy. He called me this morning and said that after doing some reading last night he doesn't think they will work. Does anybody know if this is the case and if so which ones I'll need?

I mistakenly let a guy do this to my '50 Roadie. Those reducers do not keep the voltage consistent. Ended up ruining my working 6v Sonomatic radio, horns, and inside lights. Do not do this . Change all your bulbs to 12v, if you have a 6v radio take it out and have it reworked for 12v, put an alt. on it and get the ignition working so it still starts with the accelerator pedal, pick up some older 12v horns and put them on it and get a 12v battery. Not sure what else, but DON'T USE THOSE WORTHLESS REDUCERS !!!! :spank: :spank: You'll be sorry man. :ball: :ball:

Thanks for the input Steve! I definately planned on changing out all my bulbs and my radio isn't functional (plan to put a new one in the glove box), so that isn't really an issue. My main concern was the guages (because I'd like to keep the originals), although I hadn't even thought about the horns.
I'm curious though... He's done this on a handfull of other old cars (including his own Buick) and never had a problem.
