View Full Version : Saw some old iron at the yard today
There was quite a few old cars at these two yards I visited today, thought I'd share a couple of pics.
This '75? was someone's big score, seeing how they took half the car with them.
Some more stuff waiting to be crushed and sent to China to become a sky scraper :error:
You rarely ever see Camaros that are pre '74.
There are plenty of old Cadillacs in the yards, makes me worry about how many that are left on the roads
I think they save up the old stuff, and if it isn't shipped to Sweden (usually marked on windshield), they set it out in one go.
I think these wagons are so cool, I don't think I've ever seen one on the road, just a few in the yards and on the internet.
The Riv was picked pretty clean, but I can't figure out why they only took the door skins and not the whole doors???
A couple of Centurys, 73-74?

What is that strange surface on the ground under all the cars?
Is that . . . pavement?! :eek2: lol
I've never seen one of those Specials before, what year is that, early 60's?
Anyone interested in a 4-door '67 Electra?

That is correct, well swept too! That yard is always very tidy.
That's all for today, usually you see one old Buick / month so it was pretty good, but there was nothing out there I wanted to bring home. I still need to clean out some stuff before I can put some new stuff in. I asked the guy who was responsible for selling the Electra if it was possible for him to contact me when/if it was put out for parts, there are some dash area bits and pieces I could use on the cat, so he took my number and said he would call, we'll see.

Ha! Around here, we have to find a carpet or bench seat to lay on to stay out of the mud when we're pulling stuff. It's rediculous really.

Are you in Hollywood, CA, Hollywood, FL, or Hollywood somewhere else? I would really like those front fenders off that 70 RIVI if they are not rusted, especially down where they attach to the frame.
Hollywood CA.
Measure the ones on your Riv and see if they will fit Greyhound's size limits, otherwise I'm not sure how those could be shipped at a reasonable cost?

Well, get back to that yard!
The 75 full size was a conv and that is why someone chopped off the rear qtrs.
70 Riv
--------
Get the heads, intake, carb, seat belts and fan shroud.
Check for p.trunk.
73-74 Century/Regal models
----------------------------
Get tilt columns if they have them, get both transmission x-mbrs since
those are in great demand. Also, check for p.trunks.

Greyhound weight and size allowances. Max weight at most locations 100#.Some locations will accept 150#. Max size is 30"Hx47"Wx82"L.Any oversize package 25-36" is 2.00 37-48" is4.00 and 67-82" is 12.00.I'am taking this rite off Greyhound's package guide and their oversize charges don't make any sense to me.

Hi George,
The 70 Riv is pretty gutted, the engine/trans isn't there, and the spindles were cut off with a torch, no posi.
Why do people need transmission x-members, I've never heard of one of those go bad on a car?
I still need to clean out more stuff out of the garage before I can add some new items, even if they're for sale.
Thanks again for sending me that a/c delete box a few years back, it finally went in the Centurion a year or two later, and then it was lost in the fire. I was really happy when I received it, it was an important piece of my plans for the "C" :beers2: .

A 77 LTD sounds like something you would stumble on every now and then, I rarely ever go into the Ford section, I'm more in-n-out since time is critical when you hit a few yards in one day. When you stumle on something that will take some time to retreive, you want as much time as possible left to do it.

73-74 are the only 2 years with the true dual exhaust trans x-mbr
Has two humps for 2 exh pipes.
75-77 have only one on the pass side and many people want to put dual exh on those models but need to get the 73-74 x-mbrs.
You can easily sell those for $90-125 each.

I bought a dual hump one a while back for the princely sum of $10 from a demo derby friend :TU: (who also lets me grab all the '76 Buick parts I want for free)
if you can grab them, go for it!!

My dad always told me that was half the fun. I remember a couple years ago when I was 18 carrying the rear bumper over my shoulder and trying my best to hold a door I was carrying up and out of the mud. We were looking for parts for my 4 door 84 Lesabre, and we were all the way in the back, my arms were jello when we got back up to the front. I wore tennis shoes also, so my socks and pants were soaked with old muddy water.

On the white '63 Special... can you take some pics of some stuff for me? I'd like to see what kind of condition the master cylinder is in, as well as the transmission pan (if it's a automatic), and please see if it's a 4bbl 215, I might be interested in the carb and manifold if it is. I also need a wiper knob if it has one still intact.

Hi,
Did they have any 1968 Cadillac DeVille convertibles and/or Coupe DeVille's?
Need the 6 stainless steel fender/door trim that goes on both sides (3 on each), the 2 "DeVille" emblems on the rear fenders and the "Cadillac" emblem on the trunk lid.
Thanks in advance!

Stuff is getting harded to find in the yards, especially 50"s stuff. Hopefully steel will stay down and what is left will stay around for a while.
