According to my parts book, the '58 and the '59 Dynaflows are the same, providing both are "Twin-Turbine" transmissions. If you have a "Triple-Turbine" transmission (your shift quadrant on the dash will have an "S" inbetween "D" and "L"), then the dynaflow kit probably won't work.

The fastest way of identifying a Twin Turbine is to look for the two accumulators on either side of the valve body, just behind the torque converter housing. The Triple Turbine doesn't have them. In other words, a Twin Turbine will look exactly like the unit you have in the car. The Triple turbine will not. Physically they look to be about the same size; so in theory one could just bolt it in with out having to change the torque tube. According to my '59 Buick chassis manual, the ID number is on the high accumulator side (left) just below the accumulator stamped into the valve body, (viewed from the bottom of the transmission) and it should be a letter followed by a number. In the picture it shows an "R" followed by a three digit number. I can't find any other numbers in any of my service catalogs or parts catalogs to tell me exactly what the casting should read for that particular year.

Hope this helps!
