A friend of mine owns a 1940 Buick 46C convertible and is having the grills replated. Question pertains to the recessed areas of grill. Are the painted areas grey or black.
I previously asked this question on the AACA forum, and got one response of black on a century 60. Just double checking if this is correct for a model 46.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1940 56C and the grille is in quite good condition. If you give me a day or two to dig it up I can let you know what color it is.
PM me as a reminder.

I owned a '40 Special 2dr sedan with the "Sunshine Turret Top" sunroof option, this was 5 years ago. I remember that the grilles were painted black in that area. I really wish that I had kept that car now. You couldn't even hear it running it was so quiet.

Found my grille yesterday and yes, the background is black. Hard to tell though, if it was a shiney black or a matte finish. Over time it may have gotten shiney from all the wiping and polishing.

Thanks to both of you for the info.
